The film "American Utopia," released on May 28, 2021, achieved remarkable box office success of over 140 million yen despite the pandemic, and was ranked among the top 10 films of 2021 by various film media. It has now been decided that the film will be re-released to commemorate David Byrne's visit to Japan!

David Byrne, a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, leader of the iconic 1980s NY punk band Talking Heads, and a master artist honored with numerous awards including Academy, Grammy, Golden Globe, and Tony Awards. The show, based on his 2018 album and staged on Broadway, was re-envisioned as a film by director Spike Lee and released in 2020. This film, "American Utopia," garnered significant global attention. Byrne also signed with the prestigious label Matador and released his highly acclaimed latest album "Who Is The Sky?" in September 2025.

This legendary artist, David Byrne, is scheduled to perform at "SUMMER SONIC 2026" in August 2026 and will hold a solo concert as part of "SUMMER SONIC EXTRA." The re-release of "American Utopia" has also been confirmed.

The film is based on David Byrne's 2018 album "American Utopia." Following the world tour for this work, the stage show, reconfigured as a Broadway production, began in the fall of 2019 and received rave reviews for its innovative content. Considering the possibility of a cinematic adaptation, David Byrne approached Spike Lee, and the film project began. Byrne's previous live concert film was the masterpiece "Stop Making Sense" (1984, directed by Jonathan Demme) from his Talking Heads era. However, through the successful collaboration between Byrne and Spike Lee, a new style of live film, neither a documentary nor a mere recording, was born.
