Yokohama Iwama Civic Plaza "Summer Vacation Japanese Dance Workshop for Children" [Now Accepting Applications]

This is a 4-day Japanese dance workshop for elementary school students.

This is an experiential course where participants can learn the basics of Japanese dance, feel the spirit of Japan, and also acquire skills such as how to wear a yukata, proper behavior in a Japanese-style room, and beautiful posture.

On the final day, participants will showcase the成果 of the workshop in a 'Mini Japanese Dance Recital' to which their families are invited.

●Profile●

Japanese dance artist. Resides in Hodogaya-ku. While expressing the 'appeal of Japanese dance' on stage as a performer, she is also passionately dedicated to passing on the refined and polished techniques of Japanese dance as a master instructor.

●Message●

At the beginning and end of the course, we will 'sit in seiza and greet' each other. It is a greeting where the student makes eye contact one-on-one with the teacher. Even children who are usually very lively or mischievous become intensely focused from this moment. Furthermore, learning by imitating the teacher further enhances their concentration.

Japanese dance is not just about dancing; it allows you to experience a combination of elements such as etiquette, concentration, and Japanese sensibilities. Also, introducing one's own culture is essential for the study abroad and international exchanges that are likely to increase in the future. Please take this opportunity to let your children experience Japanese dance, a traditional Japanese culture. We look forward to your participation.

【Lesson Content】

Day 1

　Learn how to wear a yukata

　Try walking and sliding in kimono

Day 2

　Try putting on the yukata by yourself

　Try expressing yourself using a folding fan

Day 3

　Can you dress neatly by yourself?

　Challenge yourself with 'Yattone-byoshi' rhythm

　You've gotten good at dressing

　Mini dance recital

Participation Fee: 7,000 yen for all 4 days

Items to Bring: Yukata (appropriate for the child's height), yukata obi (one-touch type or heko obi not allowed), strings (2 strings), tabi socks, furoshiki wrapping cloth (a large scarf is acceptable if unavailable; must be able to wrap the yukata)

　　　*Please also prepare an open-neck shirt and knee-length spats to wear under the yukata.

　　　(Thin material, no frills, etc.)

　　　*Yukata and obi are available for rent. Yukata & obi set: 1,700 yen, Obi only: 500 yen.
