In recent years, with the widespread adoption of AI agents, discussions have increased around whether a unified codebase would be more suitable for enabling AI to understand the entire project's code.
On the other hand, monorepos also present operational challenges such as CI performance and context scoping, and the optimal solution varies depending on organizational size, product phase, and team structure. Many may find it difficult to definitively say which is the "correct" approach.
Therefore, this event invited Kauche, which operates with code from multiple languages, including iOS and Kotlin, consolidated into a single repository, and LayerX, which has been advancing monorepo adoption for both backend and frontend. We delved into the realities of monorepos based on their respective repository configurations.
In the first half's lightning talks, Kauche shared the history of their transition to a monorepo and the advantages and disadvantages of consolidating multiple languages, while LayerX discussed the process of their repository integration project and the background behind their decision-making.
In the latter half's discussion, both companies joined in a deeper dive from a practical perspective, covering topics such as the timing for adopting a monorepo, challenges related to developer experience including CI and IDEs, and efforts to improve AI compatibility and scope definition.
