Orikane Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture; Representative Director: Takaomi Ito; hereinafter "Orikane") held the circular picnic experience program "Spiral Picnic Club (SPC)", consisting of sustainable items, for the first time at "Circular Fes Nagoya" held on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at Edion Hisaya Hiroba (Naka-ku, Nagoya City).
Approximately 6.0kg of biodegradable containers used at the food and beverage booths within the venue were collected (container recovery rate 47%), and composting treatment was carried out by Inoue Farm Co., Ltd. (Tokai City, Aichi Prefecture). This marked the first step towards the social implementation of circular consumption, allowing visitors to experience the process from enjoyable "use" to "returning to the soil."
Initiatives on the day
Appearance of the rental picnic set booth (photo booth)
A colorful and visually enjoyable booth, produced by upcycle culture brand "DOKKA vivid," was set up. All materials for the photo booth were reused wood, provided with the cooperation of Revive Co., Ltd. (REUSE DEPOT), and created according to DOKKA vivid's design ideas.
Visitors were offered rental picnic sets (rugs, baskets, cutlery, small items) to choose from three tastes. The picnic sets consisted of reused, recycled, and upcycled products.
The biodegradable containers used at the food and beverage booths adopted an experience design where visitors themselves sorted and deposited them at the "Eco Station." The circular flow of "eating and drinking with biodegradable containers → sorting and collection → composting → reuse as agricultural products" was shared in real-time. Visitors commented, "It was a fun first-time experience" and "The rug was so cute I hesitated to sit on it."
Collection results
The amount of biodegradable containers collected and sorted at the "Eco Station" within the venue is as follows:
PLA cups: approx. 1.6kg
Bagasse containers: approx. 4.4kg
Total collection: approx. 6.0kg
Composting process
The collected approx. 6.0kg of containers underwent sorting and pre-treatment at Inoue Farm Co., Ltd. 5kg, excluding foreign matter, was put into composting treatment. The generated compost is planned to be utilized on the farmlands of agricultural production corporation Nakako Co., Ltd. (Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture).
Effect measurement
The plastic reduction amount and container recovery rate for this event are as follows:
Plastic reduction amount: approx. 5.2kg
Container recovery rate: 47%
*Container recovery rate: Recovery rate based on actual usage reports from each kitchen car.
*Plastic reduction amount: Estimated total weight of plastic that would be generated if plastic containers of the same shape and size as those used this time were used.
Achievements seen through implementation
It was confirmed that by taking the approach of "stylish x circular," environmental consideration can be delivered as an "experiential value" rather than an "obligation." DOKKA vivid's spatial design and diverse picnic sets attracted visitors' interest and created a point of empathy for the initiative.
On the other hand, there is room for improvement in communicating to visitors that "this experience is earth-friendly" and in the communication design to improve the container recovery rate, which are recognized as challenges for future events.
Future developments
Multiple Spiral Picnic Club events are planned to be held within 2026. Expansion to other regions and events in Japan is also being planned.
Orikane will continue to promote the social implementation of a circular society centered on food, while fostering connections with consumers through the Spiral Picnic Club.
