TOPPAN Group's ONE COMPATH Inc. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo / Representative Director and CEO: Rei Hayakawa), in cooperation with PLANT Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Sakai City, Fukui Prefecture / Representative Director and President: Taiji Mitsuta), conducted a demonstration experiment to automatically generate and distribute promotional creatives for the digital flyer service "Shufoo!" and in-store digital signage using generative AI. This experiment was carried out at PLANT Kawakita Store (Ishikawa Prefecture), and in addition to improving the efficiency of creative production, an increase in views among younger demographics compared to regular flyers was observed for some content.
Background
In recent years, the retail industry has faced structural challenges such as soaring raw material prices and labor shortages, in addition to the increasing sophistication and complexity of digital initiatives. As a result, promotional activities require even greater efficiency and results than before. Particularly in the promotional field, there is a need to operate across multiple media such as flyers, apps, social media, and in-store signage with limited personnel, and creating creatives and adapting tools for each medium's characteristics places a significant burden on operations. In response to this situation, ONE COMPATH is strengthening its efforts to improve the efficiency and maximize the effectiveness of promotional operations by utilizing the vast consumer data and AI technology held by "Shufoo!". As part of this, they focused on the creative production process, which is particularly labor-intensive, and conducted a demonstration experiment of a beta tool that automates production using generative AI.

About the "Promotional Creative Automatic Generation Tool (Beta Version)"
This is an optional tool for Shufoo!AI that allows for easy and automatic generation of promotional creatives by registering product information and selecting a template. AI also determines theme settings and product placement. After AI output, adjustments can be made with an editing function that allows for content modification and additions. By distributing content regularly without incurring additional man-hours, separate from regularly distributed flyers, it eliminates information gaps and contributes to encouraging store visits.
Overview of the Demonstration Experiment
In this demonstration experiment, the "Promotional Creative Automatic Generation Tool (Beta Version)" developed by ONE COMPATH was used to verify its introduction into actual promotional operations at PLANT Kawakita Store. The aim was not merely to verify the tool's functions but to solve the following challenges faced by the retail industry.
① Challenge to "complete automation" of promotional creative production
The goal was to establish a system where even staff without design skills or specialized knowledge could generate creatives optimized for visibility on smartphones (Shufoo!) and in-store signage by simply inputting product information. If popular products and recommended product information are registered in advance for each store, flyers can be generated in about 10-15 minutes by simply selecting a content template.
② Maximizing the effect of store visits by publishing "digital flyers"
At PLANT Kawakita Store, in addition to regular flyers for special sale days, the creation and deployment of digital-only flyers focused on specific products or initiatives were being considered as an important measure to improve promotional effectiveness. However, due to production resource and budget allocation issues, it was difficult to produce individual digital flyers in parallel with regular flyers.
To address this challenge, a new production flow utilizing the "Flyer Generation AI" provided by Shufoo!AI was introduced. The existing content of regular flyers was efficiently reconfigured by AI and a system was established to publish it as digital-only flyers. This allowed for filling the gaps between regular flyer publication intervals with new information while suppressing production man-hours, successfully increasing the number of information disseminations to customers.
As a result of this initiative, the average number of flyer views increased by 1.3 times by simultaneously posting multiple flyers, expanding user touchpoints. Consequently, the average number of store visits after viewing flyers significantly increased by 1.8 times. In particular, some of the added digital flyers showed more views from people in their 20s and 30s than regular flyers, indicating the potential for increasing engagement with younger demographics in addition to improving overall views.
Going forward, in addition to adding measures to fill the gaps between initiatives using digital flyers, it has become easy to create digital content tailored to promotional objectives for each store, product, and initiative.
Furthermore, compared to other stores, the PI value* of products listed in digital flyers generated by Shufoo!AI showed a high trend, raising expectations for future utilization.
*PI value is calculated as (number of purchases / number of customers) x 1000, and is an important indicator for measuring "purchase intent (interest)". A higher value indicates a higher level of interest.
