Oki Electric Industry Co., Ltd. (OKI) is investing approximately 3 billion JPY to construct a new production building at its Numazu Plant in Numazu City, Shizuoka Prefecture. This strategic move is intended to bolster the company's production capabilities for its defense business, specifically in underwater acoustic systems and sensors. The new facility, tentatively named "OKI Numazu Factory New Building," will be a 3-story structure covering approximately 3,600 square meters, designed with earthquake and salt-damage resistance. Construction is slated to commence in July 2026, with completion expected in September 2027 and operations starting around December 2027. The expansion is projected to increase the output of underwater acoustic sensors, including sonar and sonobuoys, by about 50% compared to the 2023 fiscal year, addressing growing demand in defense and marine-related fields. Furthermore, the new building incorporates advanced energy-saving equipment and solar power generation, aiming for over 50% energy reduction and targeting Net Zero Energy Building (ZEB) and Net Zero Energy Factory (ZEF) certifications. OKI also plans to expand the application of its defense-developed underwater acoustic technology into civilian "dual-use" areas, such as marine infrastructure maintenance, environmental monitoring, and scientific research, contributing to solutions for societal challenges.
