Announcement from National University Corporation Okayama University on June 9, 2026.
The 'Okayama SDGs Study Group', one of the expert committees of the Okayama Regional Development Consortium, for which the Library and Public Knowledge Co-creation Management Department of Okayama University serves as the secretariat, held the 'Okayama Hometown Future Co-creation Board Game: Mission Card Selection Event with You in Tsuyama' for high school students in the northern part of the prefecture at the Tsuyama Chamber of Commerce and Industry on May 31, 2026.
This event was held as the second installment of the selection event for junior and senior high school students held at the Okayama University Library on March 26. On the day of the event, 15 people participated, including high school students from the northern part of the prefecture, one elementary school student, and accompanying teachers.
This board game is being created in various parts of the country with the aim of learning about social issues using SDGs initiative case studies as themes. Currently, the Okayama SDGs Study Group is proceeding with the production of the Okayama Prefecture version, the 'Okayama Hometown Future Co-creation Board Game', toward the realization of the 'Chosen Okayama'.
In addition to high school students from northern areas such as Tsuyama City and Takahashi City, collaborators from industry, government, academia, finance, and media, including the Tsuyama Chamber of Commerce and Industry and members of the 'Okayama SDGs Study Group', participated in the operation of the selection event on the day. Similar to March, a representative from Chugoku Bank, who is leading the production of the board game in the Okayama SDGs Study Group, served as the facilitator and progressed the selection event.
After experiencing the 'Keihanshin Version Board Game', the participants divided into groups and discussed 15 mission cards (mainly case studies of initiatives in the northern part of the prefecture aimed at solving regional issues in Okayama Prefecture) planned to be adopted in the 'Okayama Hometown Future Co-creation Board Game' currently under production.
In each group, cards were recommended based on problem awareness gained from their own experiences, and opinions were actively exchanged, with topics expanding to solving global-scale issues. The representative of each group announced the card chosen as the top pick along with the reason for recommendation, and after voting for the card felt to be the best in the overall vote, a review of the group and the whole was conducted before closing. Activity certificates were handed to the participants.
The 'Okayama Hometown Future Co-creation Board Game' is scheduled to be completed around the spring of 2027, with a view to being utilized in a wide range of situations, such as inquiry activities for junior and senior high school students, as well as training for companies and municipalities.
