■The 9th Challenge! Expanding Domestic Salmon Aquaculture Business in Aomori

Our group began large-scale aquaculture of salmon for raw consumption in Aomori Prefecture in 2017, and this year marks our ninth season. Utilizing the aquaculture technology and expertise cultivated at our group company in Denmark, an advanced aquaculture nation in Northern Europe, we have been continuously strengthening our aquaculture system year by year. As a result, domestic aquaculture volume reached 3,476 tons in the 2025 season, and we plan to land 4,300 tons in the 2026 season.

Starting with landings in Imabetsu Town, Aomori Prefecture, we plan to expand to Fukaura Town and Wakinosawa district of Mutsu City in the same prefecture, as well as Hokkaido*. This season, landings will be carried out sequentially from April to early July.

*Trial aquaculture is underway in Hokkaido.

■ What is Aomori Salmon®?

Aomori Salmon® is a salmon trout for raw consumption, farmed by our aquaculture business company, Japan Salmon Farm Co., Ltd., off the coast of Aomori Prefecture in the Sea of Japan.

The Tsugaru Strait area, where aquaculture is conducted, is known as a "bountiful sea" with very fast currents and various marine products landed throughout the year. Aomori Salmon®, grown in the cold and harsh environment of the northern sea, has firm flesh, good fat content, and exceptional taste.

■ From Egg to Table: The Approximately One-Year Process of Domestic Salmon Aquaculture

Domestic salmon aquaculture begins with eyed eggs around November to December each year. After hatching, intermediate aquaculture is carried out for about one year in land-based facilities, where the growth and health of the fish are managed, raising them to intermediate fish weighing about 600g to 800g. After that, they are transferred to marine aquaculture around December of the following year and grow to 3-4kg. All processes, from birth to landing, are carried out in-house.

To maintain freshness, landings are carried out before dawn to allow for same-day shipping. After ikejime (a humane method of killing fish), the fish are promptly transported to the factory for primary processing before being shipped domestically and internationally.
