Purpose and Social Significance of OiTr Installation

OiTr aims to create a society where everyone can use restrooms with peace of mind by making sanitary pads routinely available in women's private toilets—just like toilet paper—enabling preparedness even for unexpected menstruation. This reduces anxiety about potential lack of sanitary products and supports greater comfort and security when going out. As installations expand into commercial facilities, public spaces, transportation hubs, schools, and offices, more people benefit, and adopting facilities demonstrate their commitment to creating an inclusive and comfortable environment for all. This initiative also alleviates psychological and physical burdens during menstruation while contributing to gender gap reduction and the inclusive evolution of society.

About OiTr (Oiter)

OiTr is a service that allows users to receive sanitary pads for free from dispensers installed in women's private toilets. By downloading the free dedicated app and registering an account, users can receive one pad every two hours. Additionally, starting from the account registration date, users can receive up to seven pads every 25 days.

As of June 2026, OiTr has installed 4,340 units across 392 facilities in 34 prefectures nationwide.

The app also offers features such as “period prediction” and “health tracking,” receiving feedback such as “It’s convenient to receive pads while recording my cycle” and “The prediction is accurate.” Furthermore, through the media platform “Oiteru,” which aims to ease women’s anxieties, the company provides information on women’s mental and physical health, menstruation, and wellness, supporting a society where individuals can make positive, informed choices.

Background of OiTr's Creation

Oitr Inc. was founded with the mission of “solving social issues through business.” Among the issues it focused on was “menstrual poverty,” a challenge arising from gender inequality.

In Japan, women face limited access to sanitary products and hygienic environments due to economic and social reasons, leading to invisible societal losses such as loss of educational opportunities, employment difficulties, and psychological burdens.

“Why are sanitary products not routinely available in restrooms when toilet paper is?”—Inspired by this simple question, the company launched initiatives to change social awareness and environments, starting from the most familiar everyday space: the restroom.

Addressing “Menstrual Poverty”

In Japan, “menstrual poverty” is often viewed as an economic issue. However, globally, it refers to the lack of access to essential needs for menstruation—not only sanitary products but also clean water, hygienic environments, and education on biology and reproduction. Lack of access to sanitary products is not merely a material issue; it profoundly impacts dignity, health, education, and employment—entire aspects of life. While global efforts include free provision, reduced taxation, and tax elimination, support in Japan remains limited to municipal-level initiatives.

The company hopes to normalize access to sanitary products in daily life, prompting society to reconsider what has long been considered “normal.” It aspires for this initiative to be the first step toward a society where everyone can live with peace of mind, inspiring greater empathy and action.
