On Thursday, March 26, the Niigata University of Health and Welfare (part of the NSG Group) held a 'Team Medical Care Experience' for high school students aspiring to become professionals in health, medicine, welfare, and sports. Approximately 140 students from 13 high schools inside and outside Niigata Prefecture participated.

The university promotes 'High School-University-Medical Collaboration' to provide opportunities for students to think deeply about their future career paths, including visiting lectures, vocational experience programs, and hospital tours. As part of these efforts, we held the 'Team Medical Care Experience' to teach students about the collaboration and teamwork required in the fields of health, medicine, welfare, and sports.

In the morning, students were divided by their desired qualifications and professions. They attended lectures by university faculty on the roles and appeal of various professions, such as nurses, physical therapists, and registered dietitians, and deepened their understanding through hands-on activities. They also learned how each profession collaborates and contributes within a team medical care setting.

In the afternoon, based on the knowledge gained in the morning, students took on a group work challenge themed around interprofessional collaboration. They discussed what kind of treatment and support could be provided from the perspective of each profession for a given case study, and presented their findings as a group. Participants experienced the challenges and rewards of working with other professions, further deepening their understanding of 'team medical care.'

This experience is made possible only by our university, one of Japan's largest comprehensive medical universities, which brings together 6 faculties and 16 departments on a single campus and provides an environment for practical learning of 'team medical care.' We will continue to promote high school-university-medical collaboration to support high school students in their career choices.
