Notion Announces Developer Platform

Notion Labs Inc., the provider of the operating system 'Notion' where teams and AI agents collaborate, has announced a new suite of features called the 'Notion Developer Platform.' This suite allows for building not just within Notion, but also on top of Notion in collaboration with external agents. With this release, the workspace functions as infrastructure, enabling developers to extend custom agents, connect external data sources, and automate workflows in one place. Notion becomes a more powerful foundation for building tools and experiences where work is already happening.

This announcement is a significant step in Notion's evolution as an AI company. It provides agents with a secure environment to access actual business context and offers developers tools to connect data, actions, and workflows. Consequently, Notion is evolving from a tool with 'AI features' into an AI foundation that participates in and advances daily work with transparency and governance.

Key features supporting the Notion Developer Platform include Notion CLI (ntn), Workers, and the External Agent API. These are currently in public beta, incorporating authentication, permissions, and sandboxing from the first deployment to ensure standardized organizational workflows. Katsukiyo Nishi, General Manager for Asia Pacific at Notion Labs Japan, stated that this release will empower companies in their AI transformation.
