NOT A HOTEL Inc. (Tokyo, Chuo-ku; hereinafter 'NOT A HOTEL') will open 'NOT A HOTEL SETOUCHI' on Sagi Island, Mihara City, Hiroshima Prefecture, on Wednesday, April 1, 2026. 'NOT A HOTEL SETOUCHI' is the first architectural work in Japan designed by BIG (Bjarke Ingels Group), led by world-renowned architect Bjarke Ingels. Set against the backdrop of the Seto Inland Sea, the project features three villas—'180', '270', and '360'—inspired by the 'angles' of the landscape. Designed to resonate with the nature of Sagi Island, each villa captures the scenery from different perspectives, creating a unique stay experience. It is a new hub seamlessly designed to encompass not just the beauty of the architecture, but also the journey to the island, local activities, and culinary experiences. BIG has reinterpreted the Setouchi landscape, adopting an innovative circular design where nature and architecture blend. The three villas, named '360', '270', and '180' based on their positions and views, offer unparalleled vistas. The architecture fuses traditional Japanese single-story house elements with modern structures. Glass facades reinterpret shoji screens, and floor designs incorporate traditional tatami layouts. Curved rammed-earth walls use local soil, grounding the space in the land's heritage. Each villa offers unique features: '180' focuses on panoramic sea views and Japanese aesthetics; '270' features a water-centric design with a pool; and '360' sits atop the highest hill, offering a 360-degree view and a central fire space.
