"NOSE SHOP," Japan's first specialty store for niche fragrances, which aims to make a splash in the Japanese perfume market, often called a "perfume desert," will be exhibiting at the "Perfume Summer Market curated by ISETAN MEN'S" held at Isetan Shinjuku Men's Building 1F Cosmetics Promotion from July 8 (Wed) to July 28 (Tue). NOSE SHOP's participation will be for a limited time from July 15 (Wed) to July 21 (Tue).

"Perfume Summer Market curated by ISETAN MEN'S" is a signature summer fragrance event with the theme "Encountering a Scent that Expresses Yourself." The event will take over all event spaces within the Men's Building 1F Cosmetics at Isetan Shinjuku, showcasing a wide range of fragrances from classic maison brands to creator brands recommended for those who don't want to smell like everyone else.

During the period of July 15 (Wed) to July 21 (Tue), NOSE SHOP will be pre-selling "Commodity," a niche fragrance brand from the United States making its first-ever arrival in Japan. Additionally, they will offer a curated selection of "recommended summer scents" that transcend brand boundaries, along with a novelty gift campaign.

A US-Based Brand Born Online Makes Its Japan Debut

During the "Perfume Summer Market curated by ISETAN MEN'S" event from July 15 (Wed) to July 21 (Tue), "Commodity," a brand that NOSE SHOP plans to carry in the future, will be available for pre-sale.

Commodity is a fragrance brand from the United States founded in 2013 through crowdfunding by creators who questioned the industry norm that "perfume cannot be tested through a screen." After rapid growth, the brand experienced a temporary closure but was revived in 2021 under the stewardship of Viken Arslanian, a leader in the US niche fragrance industry.

To convey the scent's atmosphere even through a screen, Commodity names its perfumes after intuitive concepts like Book, Gold, and Milk, reflecting materials and textures that anyone can easily imagine. The brand's philosophy centers on subtraction as the new luxury, and they feature a meticulous clean formula that excludes 56 specific blacklisted ingredients. Their collections focus on the scent itself, stripped of unnecessary embellishments.

A key feature is the innovative concept of "Scent Space." Based on the same fragrance profile, it offers three distinct creations: "Personal," which lingers subtly close to the skin; "Expressive," which diffuses with a balanced sillage; and "Bold," which fills the space. NOSE SHOP will be selecting the most balanced "Expressive" line. This proposes a new way to enjoy perfume, choosing the "diffusion" of the scent rather than its concentration.

To break through this situation, NOSE SHOP focused its efforts on the niche market of "niche fragrances." Starting as Japan's first specialty store in August 2017, as of July 2026, the company has expanded to a total of 26 locations across all business formats. In March 2026, it was also listed on the TOKYO PRO Market of the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

Even as the number of stores increases and the company goes public, the core values remain unchanged. "Niche" means something that even one person can deeply "love." Under the banner of "Follow your NOSE.," they continue to deliver "deep loves" for individuals over the "so-so" for everyone.
