Seeking ideas for utilizing 'Horidoko', a new floating spot in the water city of Yanagawa

A 'Horidoko Contest' will be held to solicit ideas for utilizing 'Horidoko', a newly created floating space on the water in Yanagawa City, Fukuoka Prefecture. (Organizer: Yanagawa City Tourist Association) This contest widely seeks new ways to enjoy and spend time at the waterfront in Yanagawa, and the selected projects are scheduled to be implemented as waterfront experiences in Yanagawa.

New waterfront utilization in the water city, Yanagawa

Yanagawa City, Fukuoka Prefecture, has a network of about 930 km of canals, and a culture of living with water. The origin of the canals is old, and it is said that they were dug to allow people to live in the wetlands. Land was created with the dug soil, and the water accumulated there was utilized for daily life and agriculture. That is how the town of Yanagawa was formed.

However, nowadays, the canals are mainly used for 'river cruising' as a tourism resource, and the scenery closely connected to daily life as in the past is decreasing.

Is it possible to bring the distance between the canals and people closer once again?

The movable floating floor 'Horidoko' was born from such a desire.

This contest aims to create new ways to spend time at the waterfront, using this Horidoko as a stage.

What is Horidoko?

Horidoko is a movable floor used by floating it on a waterway. By connecting multiple units, a spacious area can be created, and various uses are possible depending on the layout and assembly.

(1) Connectable Horidoko is a modular system, and by connecting multiple floors according to the purpose, a wide space can be created on the water. The design and manufacturing were handled by Noritomi Iron Works, a water gate manufacturer. It was developed by applying infrastructure technology.
