NISHIUMEDA CANDLE NIGHT to Illuminate the Nights of Nishi-Umeda, Osaka, on June 9th!

The NISHIUMEDA CANDLE NIGHT Executive Committee (comprising Hanshin Electric Railway Co., Ltd., Yoshimoto Building Co., Ltd., Sankei Building Co., Ltd., The Mainichi Newspapers, and Japan Post Real Estate Co., Ltd.) will hold the candle night event 'NISHIUMEDA CANDLE NIGHT' in the Nishi-Umeda area of Kita-ku, Osaka City, on Tuesday, June 9, 2026.

This event inherits the philosophy of '1 Million People Candle Night @OSAKACITY,' which has been held since 2005. It serves as a return to the 'origin' of contemplating environment and society through light, and is an initiative undertaken in unity with the local community.

The event will feature various candles lit in different locations throughout the Nishi-Umeda area, along with candle-making workshops, live music performances, and a "lights off" initiative across the entire area. Attendees can enjoy the environmental movement of "1 Million People Candle Night," which encourages spending a slow night with candlelight by turning off electricity on the nights of the summer and winter solstices.

The continuation of an event for over 20 years, where companies, the community, and visitors come together to light handmade candles in an urban space like Nishi-Umeda, is a rare case nationwide and one of the significant values of this event.

Under the direction of General Director CANDLE JUNE, the event will present a form of candle night that connects to the future, cherishing the "culture of light" and the "warmth of human hands" that have been cultivated over the years.

The streets transform into an art gallery with the "Candle Corridor."

Candle art pieces created by Kansai-based creators and students will line the streets of the Nishi-Umeda area, turning the entire town into a corridor of light. The "NISHIUMEDA CANDLE AWARD" will also continue, offering both the joy of appreciation and participation.

Spend a special night at "Candle Park."

Nishi-Umeda Park will feature a variety of attractions, including an installation by CANDLE JUNE, candle-making workshops, a market, live music, and food trucks. Enjoy a relaxing time in an extraordinary space enveloped in light.

Traditional Content "Nishi-Ume Andon" and the Inheritance of Light Culture

The "Nishi-Ume Andon" (traditional lantern) and "Candle Corridor," which symbolize this event, are cultures nurtured together with the local community. The thoughts and feelings embedded in each light gently embrace the entire town.
