Nine Hours, a sleep tech company that designs sleep experiences with a focus on sleep analysis technology and capsule hotels, will open its first university collaboration store, 'Nine Hours Shinjuku-North,' on June 15, 2026 (Monday).

Since 2021, the company has been offering the '9h sleep checkup' service, which measures and analyzes the sleep of capsule hotel users. Through this everyday accommodation experience, Nine Hours has been working to scientifically visualize sleep quality and physical changes, creating new accommodation value.

The upcoming 'Nine Hours Shinjuku-North' will further develop these efforts by introducing a university collaboration space for the first time. In collaboration with Tokyo Shoka University (Location: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; President: Shohei Mitani), the hotel aims to provide a space where guests can learn about their own conditions and reflect on better rest and lifestyle habits, utilizing expertise in sleep, health, and traditional Chinese medicine.

Nine Hours will continue to strengthen its university collaboration stores and work on creating new value starting with sleep.

Features of 'Nine Hours Shinjuku-North'

1. University Collaboration Initiatives

'Nine Hours Shinjuku-North' will collaborate with Tokyo Shoka University and set up a university collaboration space with doctors and researchers from various specialized fields related to sleep and health. The collaborating entities are as follows:

・Tokyo Shoka University Medical AI Center (Director: Ken Masamune)

・Tokyo Shoka University Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine (Professor: Yoko Kimura)

・Tokyo Shoka University Hospital General Medicine (Professor: Hirotaka Take mura)

・Tokyo Shoka University Hospital Neurology (Professor: Mutsumi Iijima)

・Tokyo Shoka University Hospital Sleep Medicine (Associate Professor: Haruki Sekiguchi)

The space will be equipped with measurement devices such as body composition analyzers (InBody) and automatic blood pressure monitors (Omron), creating an environment where guests can obtain data related to their physical condition and health indicators. In collaboration with the university, simple measurements and checks using medical equipment will be conducted, aiming to provide guests with opportunities to review their physical condition and lifestyle habits by combining sleep data.

As needed, information based on the university's specialized and medical expertise, as well as guidance for the next steps, are also envisioned. Additionally, in collaboration with the university and related medical institutions and clinics, mechanisms will be created to connect guests to specialized consultations and information provision after they have deepened their understanding of their own condition. Through the operation of this store, the aim is to create a space where insights related to health and urban lifestyle converge, and to plan new initiatives starting with sleep.

2. Collaboration with Manufacturer Companies (Planned)

'Nine Hours Shinjuku-North' aims to further improve the sleep environment and stay experience by collaborating with manufacturer companies that focus on food, health, sports, and well-being. Leveraging the characteristics of the Shinjuku area, where users from various backgrounds both domestically and internationally gather, the hotel aims to make the stay experience of each guest more comfortable and high-quality by incorporating the technology and products of each manufacturer.

Currently, discussions are underway with multiple manufacturer companies regarding specific initiatives, and details will be announced as they are finalized.

3. Sleep Pods (Sleep Checkup)

'Nine Hours Shinjuku-North' introduces the brand's symbol, uniquely designed sleep pods.

With a minimalist space design that suppresses external stimuli, the hotel provides an environment where high-quality rest can be obtained even in short periods. Additionally, the sleep analysis service '9h sleep checkup' is offered, which uses infrared cameras, microphones, and body motion sensors installed inside the capsules to non-invasively obtain sleep status and analyze it with proprietary software. The 360-degree space design of the sleep pods, which wrap around the body, allows sleep data to be naturally obtained during the everyday accommodation experience without the need for equipment to be worn during sleep.

While serving as a comfortable resting space, it also functions as a foundation for visualizing and researching sleep.

'Nine Hours Shinjuku-North' Interior Design

Located in a commercial building on the diverse and bustling Okubo-dori, 'Nine Hours Shinjuku-North' operates on part of the floors (3F-8F, 6 floors). After its completion in 2017 and a period of operation as another tenant (another hotel), it will reopen as a renewed wellness capsule hotel in collaboration with Tokyo Shoka University.

The interior design for the renovation project of 'Nine Hours Shinjuku-North' was handled by interior designer Shizuka Iijima. In 2017, as a staff member of Nakamura Design Office, which handled the interior design at that time, she aimed to restore the space from the 1F entrance to the 8F front + lounge floor, while maintaining the overall structure of 3F-6F as locker + guest rooms and 7F as shower area. The 8F was completely renovated with a focus on sleep tech, including the installation of a university collaboration space and a lounge space designed for various ways of spending time, aiming to create a comfortable space that leads to 'better sleep'.
