Nihon Hotel Co., Ltd. (Nish Ikebukuro, Toshima-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Hiroyuki Mibayashi) will once again exhibit at the food waste reduction awareness event 'mottECO FESTA 2026' (organized by the mottECO Promotion Consortium), to be held on Monday, July 27, at Hotel Metropolitan Edmont, which the company operates.
At its exhibition booth, the company will showcase hotel-specific food waste reduction initiatives aligned with six themes: 'finishing meals,' 'using all ingredients,' 'reuse,' 'take-home,' 'recycling,' and 'awareness promotion.' Additionally, the tasting corner will feature 'mottainai menus' and upcycled baked goods prepared by chefs from Tokyo Station Hotel, Hotel Metropolitan (Ikebukuro), and Hotel Metropolitan Edmont, allowing visitors to see, learn, and taste food waste reduction efforts firsthand.
Since 2019, the company has promoted initiatives such as the '3010 Campaign' at banquets and developed 'mottainai menus' that fully utilize ingredients to reduce food waste. Starting in 2022, it introduced the 'mottECO' take-home program for leftover food and joined the 'mottECO Promotion Consortium'—a public-private-academia-citizen alliance promoting leftover food take-home—as a steering committee member. Through collaboration with various businesses, including those in the hotel industry, the company has expanded adoption. As a result, in the 2025 fiscal year, the company recorded 1,321 uses of 'mottECO,' leading to the reduction of approximately 330 kg of food waste.
Now in its fourth year, 'mottECO FESTA 2026' is an awareness event promoting food waste reduction by expanding the 'mottECO' initiative, recommended by the Ministry of the Environment, the Consumer Affairs Agency, and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. On the day, government agencies, local governments, hotel and restaurant operators, and universities will gather to present advanced initiatives and case studies, alongside lectures, panel discussions, exhibition booths, and tasting corners.
