Nihon Hotel Co., Ltd. (Nishi-Ikebukuro, Toshima-ku, President and Representative Director: Hiroyuki Mitsubayashi) will exhibit again this year at the food loss reduction awareness event "mottECO FESTA 2026" (Organizer: mottECO Promotion Consortium), to be held on Monday, July 27, at Hotel Metropolitan Edmont, which we operate.
At our exhibition booth, we will introduce food loss reduction initiatives unique to hotels, based on six themes: "eating everything," "using everything," "reusing," "taking home," "recycling," and "promotion and awareness." Additionally, at the tasting corner, you can experience food loss reduction firsthand by "seeing, knowing, and tasting" "Mottainai Menus" prepared by chefs from Tokyo Station Hotel, Hotel Metropolitan (Ikebukuro), and Hotel Metropolitan Edmont, as well as upcycled baked goods.
Since 2019, we have been working to reduce food loss through initiatives such as promoting the "3010 Movement" at banquets and developing "Mottainai Menus" that utilize ingredients without waste. Furthermore, since 2022, we have introduced the "mottECO" leftover food take-home service and have participated as a managing company in the "mottECO Promotion Consortium," a public-private-academic-citizen alliance promoting the take-home of leftovers. We are promoting its adoption in collaboration with a wide range of businesses, including the hotel industry. As a result of these efforts, our "mottECO" usage in fiscal year 2025 reached 1,321 cases, leading to a reduction of approximately 330kg of food loss.
Now in its fourth year, "mottECO FESTA 2026" is an awareness event promoting food loss reduction through the expansion of the "mottECO" initiative, recommended by the Ministry of the Environment, the Consumer Affairs Agency, and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. On the day, relevant ministries, local governments, hotel and restaurant operators, universities, and others will gather to introduce advanced initiatives and case studies, and a variety of programs will be held, including lectures, panel discussions, exhibition booths, and tasting corners.
