Since its opening in 1915, The Tokyo Station Hotel (Location: 1-9-1 Marunouchi, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo), which has walked a historical path with the Tokyo Station Marunouchi Building, will host a series of four hotel events throughout the year at Bar Oak, each unraveling the profound charm of whisky by theme.

Following the first event, "Scotch Whisky Loved by Queen Elizabeth, Purveyor to the British Royal Family," the second event, themed "A Journey Invited by Japanese Whisky," will be held on Saturday, June 13th. This event will focus on domestic distilleries, introducing the lesser-known appeal of Japanese whisky and providing an opportunity to experience Japan's whisky culture.

During the opening ceremony of Tokyo Station in 1914, then Prime Minister Shigenobu Okuma remarked, "Railways must extend in all directions." His congratulatory address, envisioning railways developing and connecting everywhere, now aptly describes the current state of Tokyo Station. Similarly, in the world of whisky, the first Japanese whisky distillery was established nine years after Tokyo Station opened. Over a hundred years later, more than 110 unique distilleries are now scattered across the country. Each drop embodies the local climate, the philosophy of its makers, and a profound taste that can only be born through the passage of time. Just as railways connect various parts of Japan and transport people and culture, whisky also conveys the stories of its respective lands to us in a glass.

In "Whisky Enjoyment at Oak," Part 2, we will deliver an experience of discovering the charm of whiskies from across Japan at Bar Oak, an authentic bar located within the Tokyo Station Marunouchi Building.

The day will begin with a hotel tour guided by hotel staff. In line with the theme of "A Journey Invited by Japanese Whisky," we will visit spots related to the development of railways, introducing the history of The Tokyo Station Hotel and the stories etched into the location. We are pleased to welcome Arisa Umakoshi, a writer who dissects whisky from cultural and historical perspectives, as our lecturer. Her stories, carefully interwoven with the history of Japanese whisky, the narratives that breathe life into distilleries, and the culture that continues to this day, will elevate the moment of sipping a glass into a richer and more profound experience. Furthermore, a selection of whiskies introduced at the event, carefully chosen by Ms. Umakoshi and Oak staff, will also be available at Bar Oak during the promotion period (June 1st to July 31st).
