[NHK Culture] Summer 2026: From Knitting and Lace to Cartonnage! New Handicraft Courses with Popular Creators Starting Soon! (Location: NHK Culture Kashiwa)

## Announcement of Summer Handicraft Courses

If you have always wanted to start a handicraft, now is your chance. This summer, NHK Culture Kashiwa is launching a diverse series of courses including knitting, lace making, and cartonnage, designed for beginners and experienced hobbyists alike.

Featuring an inaugural in-person class by a popular social media knit creator, we have gathered a wide range of genres including Nordic knitting, delicate lace, ribbon embroidery, and traditional South American lace.

### 1. Daily Knit Studio: Heart Cable Vest
This is the first in-person course by MANAMI, a knit creator popular on social media. Students will create a 'Heart Cable Vest' featuring Aran-style heart patterns and sleeve frills. It is a small-group lesson perfect for those nervous about knitting garments or those wanting to try patterned knitting.

### 2. Start Hands-Free: Nordic Knitting Lesson
An introductory course to learn Nordic knitting using 'text patterns' common abroad, utilizing yarn from the popular Danish brand ISAGER. Over three sessions, participants will create coasters, scarves, and wrist warmers. The instructor is Maika from igen.

### 3. Introduction to Lace Making: Enjoying Delicate Craft
Learn the basics of lace making from lace artist Aki Kasaishi. Starting with coaster creation, participants will progress to crafting beautiful doilies.

### 4. Ribbon-bound Cartonnage: Couture Box & Scissor Case
A special course combining ribbon embroidery and cartonnage. Students will learn embroidery (such as roses and marguerites) and assemble oval boxes and scissor cases. The instructor is Katsumi Sugioka, head of Atelier Cherry blossom.

### 5. Paraguayan Rainbow Lace, Nanduti: Making Flower Keychains
A one-day course to experience 'Nanduti,' a traditional lace from Paraguay, South America. Students will create delicate flower motifs with vibrant colors and take them home as keychains. Supervised by Elena Mie Iwaya, an instructor certified by the Paraguayan National Institute of Traditional Crafts (IPA).
