■8.2% responded that they have consulted or asked generative AI about their career or work style

First, we asked whether they had ever consulted or asked generative AI about their career or work style.

The most common answer was "No" at 91.8%, with only 8.2% answering "Yes."

Despite the rapid spread of generative AI, career consultation does not yet seem to be common practice.

So, what kind of content did those who are actually using it consult about? We asked for specifics and introduce some examples.

What kind of career consultation did you have?

- Asking whether I should change jobs. (Female, 20s)
- How to live for the next 10 years. (Male, 20s)
- How to work effectively. (Male, 20s)
- About workplace relationships. (Female, 30s)
- I had no one to talk to, so I tried consulting AI. (Female, 30s)

The topics consulted with generative AI were diverse.

From major themes like job changes and future direction to workplace relationships and even questions about the work environment, there were many cases where people were throwing very personal worries at AI.

It seems that even things one feels "cannot tell anyone" are easier to confide in AI, creating a certain demand.

■29.2% responded that "family/partner" is the easiest to consult

Next, we asked who is the easiest person to consult with about career worries.

The most common answer was "family/partner" at 29.2%.

This was followed by "Other" at 17.2%, "Search on SNS/Internet" at 14.8%, "Friends/Acquaintances" at 11.0%, "Workplace superiors/seniors/colleagues" at 10.6%, "Recruitment agents/career advisors" at 3.2%, and "Services on job change/job search sites" at 3.0%.

Additionally, 5.6% of people chose "Generative AI (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, etc.)."

It seems that people still have a strong desire to confide their career worries in those close to them.

The fact that family and partners came in first place by a large margin is likely because they are people who know everything, including private matters, providing a sense of security to discuss deeper issues.

The fact that "searching on SNS or the internet" ranked high is also interesting, suggesting that a certain number of people prefer to "research on their own before talking to someone."

Although the number of people who initially choose generative AI as a career consultation window is still small, it is starting to gain a presence.

■58.5% responded that generative AI is "easier to consult than people"

Next, we asked those who have consulted generative AI about their career or work style how they feel about AI compared to people.

The most common answer was "Easier to consult than people" at 58.5%.

This was followed by "About as easy to consult as people" at 31.7%, "More difficult to consult than people" at 7.3%, and "Slightly more difficult to consult than people" at 2.4%.

We also asked for the specific reasons and introduce some of them.

Responses from those who answered "Easier to consult than people":

- Since it has no emotions, I can consult without worrying about reactions. (Female, 30s)
- Even if my writing is a bit strange, it accepts it properly, and it doesn't just deny things but shows me a path, which is something humans don't have. (Female, 30s)
- While consulting about what I want to do, my thoughts become clearer. (Female, 30s)

Responses from those who answered "About as easy to consult as people":

- Because I can express my true feelings without holding back. (Female, 20s)
- While consulting about what I want to do, my thoughts become clearer. (Female, 30s)
- It encourages and praises me in any conversation, which motivates me, but since it never says negative things, it can make me overconfident. (Female, 50s)

Responses from those who answered "More difficult to consult than people":

- The answers are too generic. (Male, 50s)
- It feels like the responses are predetermined. (Female, 60s)

It is noteworthy that nearly 60% of those who actually consulted AI felt it was "easier to talk to than people."

Many comments mentioned "no need to be considerate," "not being denied," and "available anytime," suggesting that the hesitation and reluctance that accompany consulting people do not occur with AI, directly linking to its "ease of conversation."

On the other hand, there were also comments like "answers are too generic" and "it feels like the responses are predetermined," indicating that some people feel the difficulty of AI deeply empathizing with individual circumstances.

■58.5% responded that they have "taken action" based on advice from generative AI

Finally, we asked those who have consulted generative AI about their career or work style whether they have ever taken action based on advice or suggestions from AI.

As a result, 58.5% of respondents answered "Yes."

It was found that more than half of those who consulted generative AI have taken some action based on the advice.

Specific actions included comments such as:

- Registered on a job change site. (Female, 30s)
- Started studying for skill improvement. (Male, 20s)
- Tried communicating my opinion to my boss at work. (Female, 30s)
- Wrote out a concrete career plan. (Male, 40s)

This suggests that advice from generative AI functions not just as information provision but as a trigger for users to take concrete action.
