NetApp (NASDAQ: NTAP), an intelligent data infrastructure company, and Elastio today announced a partnership to provide multi-layered defense resilience against ransomware.

Security teams must be prepared for threats at every layer of the technology stack. This includes ransomware that quietly traverses production environments before being detected, lurking within snapshots and backups. Sophisticated ransomware is designed to evade existing prevention tools, moving through production environments while remaining below detection thresholds and reaching backup data before alerts are triggered. Through this partnership, NetApp and Elastio will help companies strengthen their cyber resilience with a multi-layered defense that covers everything from production storage to recovery data.

The two companies will incorporate Elastio’s Provable Recovery Control into the NetApp Ransomware Resilience Service as "Powered by Elastio," adding Deep File Inspection to snapshots. This enables end-to-end resilience, utilizing recovery points that are continuously verified as "clean" from ransomware detection through to recovery.

New Defense Layer in NetApp Ransomware Resilience Service

NetApp Ransomware Resilience Service Detects and contains ransomware in real-time at the data layer, takes immutable snapshots, and guides recovery. It also continuously assesses the ransomware protection status across the entire ONTAP® environment. Includes behavioral detection via Autonomous Ransomware Protection (ARP).

Elastio Provable Recovery Control Uses Deep File Inspection on ONTAP snapshots to detect zero-day ransomware, staged malware, and stealthy data corruption that have bypassed perimeter defenses. It is agentless and continuously identifies the last known clean recovery point.

Through this collaboration, Elastio Provable Recovery Control is integrated directly into the NetApp Ransomware Resilience Service without the need for additional procurement or architectural changes. With this, both companies will further strengthen their customers' cyber resilience.

Availability

The NetApp Ransomware Resilience Service powered by Elastio is scheduled to be available in the near future, starting with Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP, and will subsequently be expanded to other ONTAP environments.

Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP is a fully managed cloud service built on NetApp’s widely used ONTAP file system, providing highly reliable, scalable, high-performance, and feature-rich file storage.

Companies interested in early access should contact their NetApp or Elastio representative for assistance in evaluating their current recovery posture.

Gagan Gulati, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Data Services at NetApp, commented: "Storage is an essential element in defining a comprehensive cybersecurity strategy. By protecting data where it lives, we can place storage at the core of countering cyber threats like ransomware. However, the risks to business resilience and operational continuity are too high to rely on a single layer of defense. Through our collaboration with Elastio, companies gain a new means to protect their most important asset: their data."

Naj Husain, CEO of Elastio, stated: "Many organizations realize their recovery data is compromised at the worst possible moment—during an incident. At that point, whether a backup is clean is no longer a theoretical question. This joint solution provides a continuous answer to that question, even before an incident occurs."

Marc Crudgington, VP of IT Infrastructure and CISO at Crane WW Logistics, said: "When migrating our infrastructure, ensuring the security and reliability of our backups was an absolute requirement. Elastio provided continuous inspection of our backups from day one, giving us the confidence that we can recover reliably. This is the standard we set for ourselves."

About Elastio Elastio provides Active Cyber Resilience based on the principle that "recovery should not be tested periodically or relied upon as an assumption, but should be continuously proven." The Elastio Hunt Engine performs Deep File Inspection across production data, replicated data, and backups to detect ransomware and malware that have bypassed prevention and detection tools. It delivers "Recovery you can prove."
