NAA Retailing Co., Ltd. (headquartered in Narita City, Chiba Prefecture; President and CEO: Hiroshi Matsuzawa), a group company of Narita International Airport Corporation (NAA), has decided to introduce a newly developed shopping bag certified with the '95%' Biomass Mark (※2) at its duty-free stores, including 'Fa-So-La,' operating at Narita International Airport. This marks the first time (※1) such a certified bag will be used at an airport store in Japan. The transition will begin gradually from July 2026.
This shopping bag was jointly developed by JALUX Inc. (headquartered in Minato Ward, Tokyo; President and CEO: Toshiaki Koshi), a trading company within the JAL Group aiming to promote environmentally conscious materials, and Braskem S.A. (headquartered in São Paulo, Brazil; CEO: Roberto Ramos), a pioneer and global leader in biopolymer production.

※2 A mark operated by the Japan Organic Resources Association, indicating that over 95% of the raw materials are derived from biomass.
The I’m green™ bio-based polyethylene used in the new shopping bags is made from ethanol sourced from sustainably cultivated Brazilian sugarcane. It offers performance equivalent to conventional petroleum-based plastics. Additionally, since sugarcane absorbs CO₂ during its growth, the material contributes to achieving carbon neutrality. Compared to the current shopping bags (※3), the new bags are expected to reduce annual greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 700 tons (※4). By maximizing the use of I’m green™ bio-polyethylene, the initiative promotes reduced petroleum consumption. While achieving the highest biomass content level of '95%' among Biomass Mark-certified bag products, the new bags maintain usability and durability, successfully balancing customer comfort with environmental responsibility.
The four companies involved in this initiative will continue to expand their efforts to reduce environmental impact and contribute to achieving CO₂ reduction targets.
※3 Current bag composition: 25% biomass plastic, 40% recycled plastic, 35% petroleum-based plastic
