Reducing Barriers for Aspiring Ballet Dancers — A New Entry Point, Starting with Leotards

Our company endorses April Dream, an initiative to make April 1st a day for announcing dreams. This press release represents the dream of "MUTED GLOW."

What we aim for is to make leotards a choice that people who once felt "it might not suit me" can now choose without hesitation.

We believe this will remove one reason why people "cannot start" ballet.

■ Reasons for Hesitation Before Starting Ballet

Ballet is inherently an expression open to everyone.

However, in reality, people who try to start as adults often hesitate at the first step.

The reasons are not singular.

There are various factors, such as environment, age, and physical anxieties.

• Resistance to seeing one's reflection in the mirror
• Anxiety about body shape and psychological hurdles regarding leotards
• Discomfort with the image that "cute things suit certain people"
• The impression of being exclusive or high-barrier

Among these, we are focusing on cases where "wearing a leotard" itself becomes the initial hurdle.

Indeed, some people give up on starting or continuing ballet due to their resistance to leotards.

■ My Own Experience

I myself had the same experience.

It takes time to prepare one's body for ballet.

During that process, constantly facing the mirror became painful, and there was a period when I stepped away from dancing.

The time it takes to approach one's ideal body is by no means short.

If you keep denying yourself during that journey, it becomes difficult to continue.

I want to reduce the number of people who quit before becoming their ideal selves.

This experience is the origin of MUTED GLOW.
