Shosen/Horindo Bookstore will begin selling Noriyuki Monzen's latest work, "Monzenium: A Collection of Works by Noriyuki Monzen," from May 4th, 2026 (Monday/Holiday).

Noriyuki Monzen made his authorial debut in 2001 with "Kenchiku Shizai" (Architectural Corpse Material), for which he received the Ayukawa Tetsuya Award. He has gained many fans with his large-scale, imaginative style, based on his deep specialized knowledge and experience as a first-class architect, as seen in his representative works such as "Shikabane no Meidai" (The Corpse Proposition), "Fuyu Fukan" (Floating Sealed Hall) (Harashobo), and "Tomo ga Kieta Natsu Owaranai Tantei Monogatari" (The Summer My Friend Disappeared: An Unending Detective Story) (Kobunsha Bunko). "Monzenium: A Collection of Works by Noriyuki Monzen" is a complete short story collection that covers all four short stories published over his 25-year career, with the addition of a newly written work.

[Background to the Release]

Horindo Bookstore has been participating in the Literary Flea Market Tokyo since December 2024, publishing original books produced in-house as doujinshi. To date, they have released four works: "Fifth," "Fifth 2: Locked Room Love" (Katsunori Asukabe), "Kannon Ibun" (Tamaki Shino), and "Eien e no Boken" (Adventure to Eternity) (Reito Nikaido). This initiative is a new work in that series.

Through two past reprint projects with Noriyuki Monzen, we have successfully recirculated out-of-print works. Through our deepening interactions, we felt an unending desire to read the author's new works and an expectation for an environment where easily accessible short stories, which are now difficult to obtain, could be readily available. This time, instead of waiting for the ideal to be realized, we chose to create it ourselves. Illustrator Kensuke Okazoe drew the cover illustration, making this a challenging work that embodies the world of Monzen's works.

"Monzenium: A Collection of Works by Noriyuki Monzen" will be pre-released at the Literary Flea Market Tokyo 42 venue on May 4th, 2026 (Monday/Holiday). In addition, at the "Ne-41/42" space within Literary Flea Market Tokyo 42 at Tokyo Big Sight South Halls 3 and 4 on the day, author Noriyuki Monzen will participate and interact with visitors. Shosen/Horindo Bookstore stores and Shosen Online will begin sales on May 5th, 2026 (Tuesday/Holiday). Reservations will start on Shosen Online from April 3rd, 2026 (Friday), so customers living far away who find it difficult to purchase at events or stores are encouraged to use mail order.

This is a collection of works consisting of five short stories (including the newly written "Deadbolt") that I have published over the past 15 years. A female elementary school detective, Detective Kawasaki as a sub-character, a detective story, a non-style, and the appearance of Kumode are limited to only one work. At first glance, it may seem to lack cohesion, but it is a collection of works drawn to the unknown element "Monzenium." I hope you will pick up this block called Monzenium, which specializes in deceiving readers.

And after reading, I aim for the cover illustration to allow them to appreciate the work more deeply, thinking, "So that's what it was depicting." This time too, I would be happy if, after enjoying Noriyuki Monzen's book, readers would once again turn their attention to the cover illustration.

There is a fairy tale-like short story called "The Great Sin of the Gods." It's an unusual work, as Kumode, the main character of Monzen's works, does not appear, and the setting is not Japan. However, it is a work that shows Mr. Monzen's desire to surprise and entertain his readers.

After reading it, when I looked for other short stories by Noriyuki Monzen, I found that he had only written four short stories in his 25-year career! With this number of works, anyone can catch up now. I've compiled them into one volume so that they can be easily picked up. Recently, many books published in the past that are difficult to find are being traded at exorbitant prices on various online services. While "people who want to pay the price they can afford" may seem like a "given" in today's world, we believe "that is not the case."

We will take on the challenge of delivering those masterpieces that fans eagerly desire, and those excellent books that we highly recommend, at a "fair price."

And this cannot be achieved by us "bookstores" alone.

We believe that by cooperating with authors, publishers, fans, and other related parties, we can gradually give shape to this challenge.

We named this project "Shosen and 10 Books" and "Horindo Bookstore and 10 Books."

The project title expresses our wish for "10 books to be released to the world by Shosen and its related parties."

We have been delivering books that we want to recommend again through this project since August 2023.
