On June 9, 2026, as part of the week-long celebration for the 'MUSIC AWARDS JAPAN 2026' (MAJ), the 'Billboard JAPAN | Spotify present Women In Music - EQUAL STAGE' took place at SGC Hall Ariake as a special live event.
This event was designed to promote gender equity in the music industry. It combined two major brands: 'Billboard JAPAN Women In Music,' a project launched by Billboard JAPAN in 2022 to introduce women empowering society and their supporters, and 'Spotify EQUAL,' a global program launched by Spotify in 2021 to support female artists and creators. The one-night-only stage highlighted the commitment of both brands to a more inclusive society.
Four female artists active globally across genres performed: Atarashii Gakko!, Awich, Hitsujibungaku, and LANA. The event was emceed by mikako (Nagie Lane) and Ryo Nagoshi, featuring artist interview videos and EQUAL brand movies between performances.
Atarashii Gakko! performed hits like 'Chanka Chanka', 'Otonablue', and 'Fly High', showing respect for the other performers. Hitsujibungaku delivered a powerful performance including their hit 'more than words' and their latest song 'Dogs,' the theme for the Netflix drama series 'Kujo no Taizai,' showcasing their masterful alternative rock sound.
