Announcement of the Launch of Food Allergen Test Kit FASPEK ELISA II Cashew Nut

Morinaga Bioscience Laboratories Co., Ltd. (Tsurumi Ward, Yokohama City; Representative Director and President Minoru Morita), a group company of Morinaga & Co., Ltd. (Shibaura, Minato Ward, Tokyo; Representative Director, President & COO Shinya Mori), will begin selling the food allergen test kit "Morinaga FASPEK ELISA II Cashew Nut," which supports cashew nut testing, from April 6, 2026.

■Background

　In recent years, the number of patients with tree nut allergies has surged. In the "National Survey on Health Damage Due to Immediate-Type Food Allergies" conducted by the Consumer Affairs Agency in Reiwa 6 (2024), tree nut cases ranked second only to eggs. Within tree nuts, cashew nuts are second only to walnuts, which are in first place. Furthermore, cashew nuts are the fifth leading cause of foods that cause anaphylactic shock, indicating that they are a high-risk food for allergy patients.　

　In response to these survey results, the Food Labeling Standards were revised on April 1, Reiwa 8 (2026), and cashew nuts were newly added to the specified raw materials. Until now, cashew nuts were "recommended" to be labeled as one of the raw materials equivalent to specified raw materials (20 items), but with their addition to the nine specified raw materials, labeling will become "mandatory." Therefore, although there is a transitional period, food-related businesses will need to reconfirm raw materials and manufacturing methods and review product labels.

　Our company has been selling the simple kit for self-inspection, "Nanotrap Pro II Cashew Nut," since March 2025. This time, we will start selling the quantitative test kit based on the ELISA method, "Morinaga FASPEK ELISA II Cashew Nut," which complies with the Consumer Affairs Agency Director-General's Notification "Regarding Food Labeling Standards" (Notification No. 139, March 30, Heisei 27 (2015)).
