The Japan Medical Association (JMA) is a private academic professional organization with approximately 174,000 members (as of December 1, Reiwa 4). Founded in 1916 by Dr. Shibasaburo Kitasato and others, it was recognized as a corporate juridical person in 1947 and a public interest incorporated association in 2013. The JMA is broadly active in areas such as promoting medical ethics, improving medical education, advancing medicine and related sciences, and lifelong learning.
