MIKKELLER JAPAN Launches First Core Beer Line, "MIKKELLER NZ," in Collaboration with New Zealand's Garage Project!

Mikkeller Japan Inc., the craft beer brand from Denmark, is launching a new project, "MIKKELLER NZ," in collaboration with Garage Project, an experimental brewery in Wellington, New Zealand.

This project is positioned as Mikkeller's first "core" series developed for the Japanese market. By combining the recipes and brewing philosophies of both parties, we will offer three types of craft beer that can be enjoyed continuously.

Background of Development

Mikkeller has, until now, created innovative beers through collaborations with breweries around the world. However, Mikkeller Japan has primarily focused on limited-edition brews.

"MIKKELLER NZ" is a new flagship line aimed at stable expansion in the Japanese market. By fusing the unique characteristics of New Zealand hops with the experimental spirit of both breweries, we propose a craft beer experience that can be enjoyed more casually in daily life.

About the Collaboration with Garage Project

Garage Project is an experimental craft brewery established in Wellington, New Zealand, in 2011. Starting with a 50-liter brewing system in a small garage, it has grown into a globally recognized entity.

Their approach to recipe development, unconstrained by conventional brewing wisdom, and their deep connection to the New Zealand hop industry resonate with Mikkeller's philosophy of constantly pursuing innovation.

The two companies met at "MIKKELLER BEER CELEBRATION TOKYO" in 2018 and have maintained a close relationship. This project combines Mikkeller's classic recipes with Garage Project's new brewing approaches.

MIKKELLER NZ First Lineup

As the first phase of this project, the following three types will be released:

◯ Mysterious Path

Style: Dry Hop Pilsner (Alc.4.5%)

HOP: Saaz, Nelson, Simcoe, Motueka, Citra

Based on a Bohemian-style Pilsner, the unique characteristics of New Zealand hops are layered to achieve an aroma reminiscent of citrus and white grapes, with a crisp finish. It offers both refreshment and a playful hop character.

◯ Forest Friends

Style: West Coast IPA (Alc.6%)

HOP: Simcoe, Taiheke, Riwaka

Characterized by aromas reminiscent of grapefruit and passion fruit, with a clean and sharp bitterness. It combines the classic structure of a West Coast IPA with the vibrant aromas unique to New Zealand hops.

◯ Windy Hill

Style: NEIPA (Alc.7%)

HOP: Motueka, Taiheke, Mosaic, Citra, Nelson

New Zealand hops bring out aromas like lime, mango, and gooseberry. Despite an alcohol content of 7%, it achieves a light drinkability and offers a tropical, soft haze.

Future Developments

"MIKKELLER NZ" is planned for continuous expansion as a core series in the Japanese market. We will continue to propose a wider variety of craft beer experiences through recipe development that leverages the appeal of New Zealand hops.

This business handles MIKKELLER NZ, MIKKELLER beers from Denmark, and products from our close international brewery partners. Currently, we offer beers from unique breweries such as Warpigs, OMNIPOLLO, Garage Project, and Brewski, and plan to expand our lineup further.

It should be noted that while Whisk-E Inc. has previously handled the import and sale of Mikkeller beers in Japan, this new business represents a different form of import and wholesale distribution.

We aim to deliver MIKKELLER beers, as well as attractive beers created by MIKKELLER FRIENDS breweries, throughout Japan, providing many people with new encounters with beer.
