Development of 'Mirapolyca MP' Method: A Physical, Chemical-Free Anti-Termite Solution for External Insulation, Contributing to Health, Ecology, and Durable Wooden Houses by Matsumi Housing Co., Ltd.

Matsumi Housing has developed and patented the 'Mirapolyca MP Method', a chemical-free physical anti-termite technique for foundation external insulation. By using termite-resistant insulation and treating joints, it achieves semi-permanent termite prevention without periodic chemical spraying.

Foundation insulation is the most suitable method for improving the livability of a house.
Among foundation insulation methods, 'foundation external insulation' is the best approach.

Compared to floor insulation and foundation internal insulation, the 'foundation external insulation method' allows the underfloor space to have the same temperature and humidity environment as the interior of the room.
Therefore, it has the advantage of preventing the floor from getting cold in winter and maximizing the effectiveness of the building's heating.
Furthermore, since the concrete is not exposed to outside air, thermal insulation defects are less likely to occur, which not only improves the insulation performance of the building but also enhances the durability of the concrete itself.

However, when the foundation external insulation method is adopted, there is a high risk that the insulation material will suffer from termite feeding damage, allowing termites to build mud tubes inside the external insulation and invade the interior of the building.
Insulation materials containing termiticides are also sold, but there is a theory that their effectiveness is limited.

Matsumi Housing Co., Ltd. has adopted 'Mirapolyca Foam', an insulation material developed by JSP Corporation. 'Mirapolyca Foam' is an insulation material made by foaming polycarbonate and was developed with the aim of not being subject to termite feeding damage. Experiments at the Research Institute for Sustainable Humanosphere, Kyoto University, have also proven that it does not suffer from termite feeding damage.

Matsumi Housing Co., Ltd. uses 'Mirapolyca Foam' and applies anti-termite treatment to the joints and connections of the insulation material, as well as the connection parts between the dirt floor concrete (such as the entrance) and the external insulation of the foundation. As a physical anti-termite method that does not rely on chemical treatment, they developed the 'Mirapolyca MP' method and obtained a patent.

Since 2008, we have adopted the 'Mirapolyca MP' method and applied it to over 300 newly built houses, and there has been no feeding damage caused by termites so far. There is no need to spray termite disinfectants under the floor, on structural materials such as foundations and pillars, or on the exterior.

Normally, buildings are disinfected for termites by spraying chemicals once every 5 years. In other words, as long as the building is standing, termite disinfectants must be sprayed permanently.

If the 'Mirapolyca MP Method' is applied at the time of new construction, there is absolutely no need for any chemical treatment thereafter.
