Maruzen Pharmaceuticals, a manufacturer of natural ingredients for cosmetics and health foods, conducted an internet survey on mental stress and skin conditions, targeting women in their 20s to 50s.

In recent years, keywords such as 'well-being,' 'beauty reflecting the inner self,' and 'improvement of skin resilience' have become global trends in the beauty industry. In addition to traditional care that protects the skin from external stimuli, approaches that work on the connection between skin and mind are gaining attention.

This survey clarified the specific symptoms of skin deterioration caused by mental stress and whether skincare performed during times of mental stress leads to relaxation.

Based on the findings from this survey, Maruzen Pharmaceuticals will promote the research, development, and proposal of cosmetic ingredients that focus on the relationship between skin and mind.

Survey Overview Survey Theme: Survey on Mental Stress and Skin Condition Survey Period: December 2025 Survey Method: Internet survey (Survey Agency: Fastask) Primary Survey Participants: 3,577 women in their 20s to 50s Main Survey Participants: 1,315 women in their 20s to 40s who are interested in skincare, feel mental stress daily, and experience skin deterioration due to mental stress

Survey Results Awareness of the link between mental stress and skin trouble: Approximately 70-80% of respondents across all age groups reported feeling that mental stress is a cause of skin problems. Specific symptoms of skin conditions due to mental stress: 'Sensitive skin symptoms (itching, discomfort)' ranked 1st for those in their 20s, while 'rough skin (dryness, flakiness, worsening texture)' ranked 1st for those in their 30s and 40s. 'Visible dark circles' and 'acne/pimples' were also highly ranked across all age groups. Relaxation effect through skincare: About 97% of respondents in their 20s answered that they 'sometimes' or 'occasionally' feel a relaxation effect. This suggests that younger generations are more likely to feel the impact of stress in their daily lives and more likely to experience the relaxation benefits of skincare.
