LUMINE Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Teruyuki Omote), under its sustainability policy 'WE ILLUMINATE THE FUTURE: The daily choices I make create our future,' is pursuing positive changes for the environment and society. Starting in fiscal year 2024, we are advancing the transition to 100% clean energy for all our facilities, including our headquarters. As part of this initiative, we are introducing an off-site corporate PPA (Power Purchase Agreement) utilizing hydroelectric power. We are taking a further step forward in our commitment to a decarbonized society for the next 100 years.
■ Overview
Starting in fiscal year 2024, Lumine is transitioning all 17 of its locations, including its headquarters, to 100% clean energy. In addition to achieving carbon neutrality through environmental value certificates*1 such as 'Renewable Energy J-Credits' and 'Non-Fossil Certificates,' as well as utilizing electricity derived from 'J-Bio Food Recycling'*2 (using food waste) and 'off-site corporate PPAs via solar power,' we are now introducing our first 'off-site corporate PPA via hydroelectric power.' Hydroelectric power is gaining attention as a clean energy source due to its ability to provide a stable supply of electricity regardless of natural conditions and the long lifespan of its generation facilities. We decided to implement this PPA because the power source, the Suezawa Power Plant, completed repowering (facility upgrades) in November 2024, allowing for more efficient generation. By covering a portion of the energy used by our flagship store, 'Lumine Shinjuku Lumine 1 & Lumine 2,' with electricity derived from hydroelectric power, we will further accelerate the transition of our power usage to clean energy.
Through the continuation of our carbon-neutral city gas initiatives since fiscal year 2021 and the 100% clean energy electricity initiative starting in fiscal year 2024, we anticipate a total annual CO2 reduction of approximately 38,000 (t-CO2) by fiscal year 2025. We will continue to utilize cleaner energy, advance our efforts toward a decarbonized society, and pursue positive changes for the environment and society for the next 100 years.
