The 17th Kagurazaka Rakugo Festival will take place on June 20 and June 27, 2026, at the Akagi Shrine Assembly Hall (1-10 Akagi-motomachi, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo). Tickets are currently available through Confetti, operated by Long Run Planning Inc.

This two-day event offers a chance to enjoy exceptional rakugo in Kagurazaka, a district historically renowned for its yose theaters and performing arts. In its 17th year, the festival features sophisticated Edomae-style rakugo and vibrant performances by a rising star in kodan, all curated by producer Kokontei Kikunojo.

Started in 2009 by local volunteers, the festival has been consistently produced by master of orthodox Edomae rakugo, Kokontei Kikunojo, since its inception.

A highlight of this year's program is the "Kikunojo-Ichika Duo Performance" on the evening of Saturday, June 20. Kikunojo has invited rising kodan star Ichika Tanabe, who is set to be promoted to shin'uchi this autumn, to perform with him, allowing the audience to enjoy the intersection of two different traditional narrative arts.
