L'OCCITANE held the charity event 'L’OCCITANE CLEAN WALK' in Ebisu, Tokyo on Sunday, June 7, 2026, where participants walked together while cleaning the environment. A total of 146 people, including general applicants and L'OCCITANE JAPON Co., Ltd. President Naoki Yamamoto and volunteer employees, picked up litter while walking through the Ebisu, Nakameguro, and Meguro areas. The combined distance walked by all participants was approximately 358km, contributing to the planting of about 9 trees.
This event was part of the customer-participation initiative 'Race for Sustainability,' which converts participants’ walking distances into tree planting donations—up to 2,500 trees. Until Tuesday, June 30, the dedicated website is collecting daily movement data from the public. No registration is required, and participants can submit their distance every day. Whether from running, walking, commuting, school trips, or shopping, any daily movement counts. By simply posting your daily distance, you can join this tree-planting campaign.

L'OCCITANE Protects Nature: Hosting a 'Clean Walk' Event That Links Waste Collection to Tree Planting.
This Clean Walk event was co-hosted in collaboration with greenbird, a certified NPO that enables anyone in Japan and abroad to freely participate in urban cleanups. On the event day, 146 participants joined, including general attendees (elementary school age and above), greenbird staff, and L'OCCITANE employee volunteers. All wore yellow bibs in L'OCCITANE’s signature color and split into 10 groups to conduct cleanup activities around Ebisu, Nakameguro, and Meguro. Although the streets appeared clean, they collected far more trash than expected, helping prevent waste from flowing into the ocean and raising awareness against littering.
At the start of the event, Naoki Yamamoto, Representative Director and President of L'OCCITANE JAPON, delivered opening remarks to the participants:
"This year marks L'OCCITANE’s 50th anniversary. Since our founding, we have cherished our respect for nature and people, sharing the power and fragrance of plants with the world. We believe it is not only our mission to deliver products, but also our responsibility to protect nature. Unfortunately, today’s environmental conditions require all of us to act together. I hope today’s event inspires everyone to feel a renewed sense of respect for nature and connection with others as we clean our streets together."

Following this, Gō Izui, Head of the Sustainability Promotion Office, explained the event’s purpose:
"Since its founding, L'OCCITANE has promoted various CSR activities, including 'Reducing waste (being kind to nature),' such as collecting empty product containers in stores to support material recycling. Studies suggest that as much as 40 tons of waste flow into the ocean every minute. At L'OCCITANE, we believe in preventing pollution at the source—before trash reaches the sea—by organizing regular employee-led street cleanups. We’ve also partnered with greenbird, a certified NPO conducting beautification activities nationwide, to support their efforts. That’s why, for this year’s Sustainability Month, we’ve planned an event combining walking with litter-picking."
A touch-up corner for the new refreshing summer fragrance series 'Verveine' was also available.
At the event venue, a corner allowed guests to experience the new 'Verveine' fragrance series. The citrusy, refreshing scent was perfect for post-exercise refreshment. Participants returning from the Clean Walk received one sheet each of the limited-edition body wipe 'Verveine Icy Towlettes.' The towlettes, offering a sensation like a cold shower, were praised by participants for comfortably refreshing their sweaty skin.

To celebrate the Maison’s 50th anniversary this summer, three mood-enhancing fragrances—'VERVEINE (Verveine),' 'LAVANDE (Lavender),' and 'VERVEINE AGRUMES (Verveine Agrumes)'—have been launched.
As the first release in this mood fragrance series, the No.1 bestselling fragrance 'Verbena' was reborn as 'VERVEINE (Verveine)' on May 27. Verbena, a herb symbolizing the summer of Haute-Provence, has a lemony, refreshing scent. Inhaling deeply clears the mind and sharpens focus. 'VERVEINE (Verveine),' capturing the essence of freshly picked verbena, refreshes both body and mind with its crisp aroma—ideal for the emotionally fluctuating rainy season, or before work and study when concentration is needed.
Small actions by each individual lead to a better future: 'L'OCCITANE Sustainability Month'
In line with World Environment Day, L'OCCITANE designates every June as 'L'OCCITANE Sustainability Month,' promoting accessible actions for a sustainable future. This year marks the fifth edition, continuing last year’s 'Race for Sustainability' campaign, which converts participants’ movement distances into tree-planting donations. This initiative originated from a global charity event L'OCCITANE has run since 2016 for employees worldwide. Using a dedicated app, employees log their running or walking activities, and donations are determined based on their collective achievements—making social contribution enjoyable. To extend this effort to the general public, the customer-participation version of the campaign launched last year.
Additionally, until Tuesday, June 30, a campaign is running where customers earn points for purchasing refills. Refill usage reduces plastic consumption by approximately 70% compared to new product packaging. The special website also features numerous sustainability actions customers can take with L'OCCITANE. Please visit and explore during this opportunity.
Overview of 'Race for Sustainability'
On L'OCCITANE’s official Sustainability Month website, participants can register the distance they’ve run or walked. If the total distance by all participants reaches 100,000km during the campaign period, L'OCCITANE will donate up to 10 million yen to an NPO partner, funding the planting of 2,500 trees. Upon registration, participants receive a digital badge, which they can share on social media to encourage others to join.
