JR East Tohoku Service Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture, Representative Director: Toshinori Mima) will jointly hold a 'Shinkansen Akabeko Painting Experience' with Akabeko Land in Aizuwakamatsu City, Fukushima Prefecture, at the Power City Pivot, West Exit of JR Fukushima Station. In conjunction with the 'Fukushima Destination Campaign' starting in April, we hope that visitors to Fukushima will experience the charm of Fukushima through the painting experience of Akabeko, a traditional craft of Fukushima Prefecture.
Participation in this workshop requires advance registration via JRE MALL Ticket 'Tohoku MONO WEB SHOP'. We sincerely look forward to your participation.
1. Workshop Overview
Dates: Weekends in April and May 2026, May 5th (Children's Day)
Session Times: 4 sessions per day, approximately 1 hour 30 minutes per session *Capacity: 20 people per session
1st Session: 10:00-11:30 2nd Session: 11:30-13:00 3rd Session: 13:00-14:30 4th Session: 14:30-16:00
Location: Power City Pivot, West Exit of JR Fukushima Station
What to bring: Nothing (brushes and paints will be provided by the organizer)
※Please wear clothes that you don't mind getting paint on.

<Painting Process>
① Paint the Shinkansen colors on the Akabeko's face and body in that order.
② Paint the sides of the neck.
③ Draw the eyes and nose.
④ Draw the train car patterns on the body.
〇You can take your painted Akabeko home on the same day!

※As paint will be used, it may not come off if it gets on clothing.

Akabeko Land is a tourist facility where you can 'see, learn, and enjoy' Akabeko, with two locations in Aizuwakamatsu City, Fukushima Prefecture: the Iimoriyama store and the Nanukamachi store. It allows visitors to review the origins and history of Akabeko for a deeper understanding, and also incorporates the traditional character of Akabeko into new designs, exploring ways to engage with it in modern life.
