“Elementary Students Honoring Their Teacher” — LCA International Elementary School, Where Taking on Challenges Becomes Culture

LCA International Elementary School (Location: Sagamihara City, Kanagawa Prefecture; Principal: Norio Yamaguchi) held an award report meeting for the school principal and staff after students won multiple awards, including the "Hashimoto Station Master Award," in the "1st KEIO eSPORTS LAB. Approximately 40 students across different grade levels participated in this contest as a project team. They expressed the principal's vision of a "Dream City of English and Art" within Minecraft, earning high praise for their creativity, collaboration, and planning skills. Additionally, during the report meeting, a "reverse awards ceremony" took place where the students presented a certificate of appreciation and a medal to the principal, filling the venue with great emotion. ■ 40 Students' Visions Unite! What is New-Generation Teamwork? The project, which involved about 40 students from 1st to 5th grade, was made possible by an innovative design that completed the entire process online. The foundation was built on "clear goal sharing" and active learning utilizing YouTube. The "City of English and Art" envisioned by Principal Yamaguchi had already been clearly imprinted in the minds of all students through on-campus displays. Furthermore, by providing instructions on assigned areas and building rules via video, students were able to understand and implement them from their respective homes, allowing them to demonstrate their creativity without being bound by time or location. Through this fully remote collaboration, which mirrored real-world operations, the team won a total of five awards, including the Hashimoto Award. ■ The “Reverse Awards Ceremony” at the Report Meeting Toward the end of the report meeting, a student representative said: "There is one more teammate we would like to honor."
