[Kyoto Seika University] Gallery Terra-S 2026 First Semester Exhibition "Ryū Mieno "龘｜TOU" Exhibition: Alma Mater Edition" Opens

Kyoto Seika University (Sakyo-ku, Kyoto City, President: Masato Sawada) will host a solo exhibition by designer Ryū Mieno, titled "Ryū Mieno 龘｜TOU," at its on-campus gallery, Kyoto Seika University Gallery Terra-S.

After graduating from the Graphic Design Course, Department of Visual Design, Faculty of Design at our university, Mieno has been active as a freelance graphic designer, primarily engaged in graphic production centered on typography.

In April 2025, his 500-page art book "龘｜TOU," compiling over 10 years of his work, was published. This art book is structured into five chapters: "Design of Tactility," "Deconstruction of Typefaces," "Wavering Still Images," "Five Senses to Sound/Sense," and "Tuning of Meaning," offering a deep exploration of Mieno's design philosophy and creative approach.

To commemorate its publication, a touring exhibition has been held in various locations including Tokyo, Aichi, Fukuoka, and Kyoto, with this exhibition serving as the final venue. At Gallery Terra-S, in alignment with the art book's structure, past works will be divided into five sections and exhibited together, featuring posters, flyers, logos, and nearly all of Mieno's graphic works to date. Additionally, a new sixth section will be established, comprising works related to characters that Mieno has selected from the university's collection of calligraphy and rubbings. Furthermore, VOU, a gallery and shop that has collaborated with Mieno for many years, will hold a pop-up exhibition and display archives commemorating his 10th anniversary.

Highlights of this exhibition

1. The trajectory of over 10 years of activity revealed at once: Posters, flyers, logos, and almost all graphic works created by Mieno to date will be presented according to the chapter structure of the art book.

2. Special exhibition of university collection items selected by Mieno: A dedicated space will feature works chosen by Mieno from the university's collection of calligraphy and other items related to characters.

3. Pop-up exhibition by gallery and shop VOU & archive release: The gallery and shop VOU, a long-time collaborator of Mieno, will host a pop-up exhibition and unveil past archives in celebration of his 10th anniversary.
