To commemorate the 50th anniversary of Kadokawa films, the "Kadokawa Film Music Festival ~Theme Song & Insert Song Concert~" will be held on Sunday, August 9th, at Bunkamura Orchard Hall in Tokyo. A star-studded lineup of performers will gather, including Tetsuya Komuro, Takashi Matsumoto, Shiro Sano, Yoshitaka Minami, Hironobu Nomura, Toru Matsumura, Marine, Kumiko, Sora Fujii, and MC Kogaken. Tetsuya Komuro will perform "SEVEN DAYS WAR" from "We Are Rock Soldiers" and "Honoo" from "Heaven and Earth," and will also sing and perform "Heaven and Earth ~HEAVEN AND EARTH~." Yoshitaka Minami will sing the theme songs from "Slow Down Boogie, Make Me Yours" and "Main Theme." Marine will sing "Left Alone" from "Cabaret," "You are love" from "Virus," and "Ketanai Eiyuu" from "Ketanai Eiyuu." Sora Fujii will perform the trumpet for the theme song of "The Beast Must Die."©️GEKKO

Among this lineup, Hironobu Nomura's vocal performance is particularly noteworthy. He made his acting debut in "Main Theme" in 1984 after passing an audition, and took his first starring role in "Cabaret" in 1986. In between, in 1985, he voiced the protagonist, Akihiko Nomura, in the animated film "Bobby ni Kubittake," serving as a voice actor. Nomura himself also sang the insert song from the film, "Bobby ni Rock'n Roll."

"Bobby ni Rock'n Roll" was created by the hit-making trio of Takashi Matsumoto (lyrics), Yoshitaka Minami (music), and Masao Omura (arrangement). Nomura himself will sing it at the "Kadokawa Film Music Festival."

Nomura commented on Matsumoto's lyrics, saying, "I was a fan of Seiko Matsuda, so I had the image of 'Seiko Matsuda = Takashi Matsumoto' since I was a student. I really loved the world of lyrics that Matsumoto created, and I felt like I was in love with the imagery of the lyrics." He added, "To have the person who wrote the lyrics for the song I sing do so is deeply moving and a very memorable song."

Regarding the animated film "Bobby ni Kubittake," he revealed his struggles with dubbing, stating, "I remember it being very difficult to match my voice to the animation." He also reflected, "When it came to singing, I was young at the time, and I don't think my voice had much power."

Nomura actually had an opportunity to sing "Bobby ni Rock'n Roll" in 2025. He commented, "Having gone through various experiences and sung it, I think I was able to sing it a little better than back then (laughs)," raising expectations for his upcoming performance.

Matsumoto recalled, "When Yoshitaka and I create music, 99% of the time the music comes first, and then I write the lyrics."

At the time, Matsumoto, who wrote the lyrics, and Nomura, who sang the song, never had the chance to meet directly. In fact, this interview for the program marked their first encounter. Nomura said, "I feel a sense of awe and I'm still nervous (laughs)," but expressed his joy at meeting Matsumoto, whom he respects.

Nomura further shared his thoughts for the upcoming event: "The lyrics of 'Bobby ni Rock'n Roll' depict young love, youth, and the romance and heartbreak between men and women. I think I sang it with genuine, true-to-life feelings back then, but now that I, at 60, will be singing it, I feel like I'll be singing it with a sense of nostalgia, thinking, 'Ah, that was a time.'"

We hope you will experience and enjoy the special and precious one-night-only concert, "Kadokawa Film Music Festival ~Theme Song & Insert Song Concert~," on August 9th.
