Kracie Pharmaceuticals, Ltd., which sells OTC and prescription drugs, primarily Kampo medicines, conducted an awareness survey on "Summer Skin Troubles" among 600 women aged 20 to 40.

According to the Japan Meteorological Agency's 3-month forecast, temperatures are expected to be higher than average nationwide from July to September, potentially leading to intense heat. This heat, along with the humidity of the rainy season, makes summer a season when not only the body but also the skin is prone to problems.

This report explains the relationship between "inner dryness" and "turnover," which are closely related to summer skin troubles, along with the results of a survey on "Summer Skin Troubles."

Key Topics:

Approximately 60% of women aged 20-40 experience skin troubles in summer; "acne and breakouts" are the biggest concern.

"Sweat and sebum" are the most common reasons for rough skin; skincare is the main approach, often overlooking inner care.

About 60% don't know what "inner dryness" is!? Explanation of "inner dryness" to be aware of in summer.

Among those who had experienced skin troubles, "acne and breakouts" were the most common concern at 52.8%, followed by "itchiness/rashes" at 34.3%, and "redness" at 34.1%.

"Sweat and sebum" are the most common reasons for rough skin / About 70% use skincare. Is inner care being overlooked?

Next, when asked about the causes of rough skin among those who answered "yes" in the previous question, "sweat and sebum" was the most common answer at 63.4%, followed by "UV rays." While 69.3% of respondents addressed skin problems with "skincare" such as moisturizing and face washing, only 21.6% used "supplements" and 11.6% used oral medications, indicating that inner care is not sufficiently recognized.

About 60% don't know what "inner dryness" is!? Explanation of "inner dryness" to be aware of in summer.

Regarding awareness of "inner dryness (a state where the inside of the skin is dry)," 58.3% of women aged 20-40 answered "don't know well." Furthermore, 27.3% answered "I've heard of it but don't know if it applies to me," revealing a lack of widespread understanding of "inner dryness."

What is "Inner Dryness"?

Inner dryness refers to a condition where the skin surface appears oily due to sebum secretion, but the inside of the skin (stratum corneum) is dehydrated due to lack of moisture. Unlike oily skin (seborrheic skin), which has both excess sebum (oil) and moisture, inner dryness describes "hidden dry skin" where the surface is covered in sebum but lacks internal moisture.

Relationship between Summer "Inner Dryness" and "Turnover"

Factors unique to summer, such as "strong UV rays" and "dry air from air conditioning," contribute to "inner dryness" in summer. Sebum plays a role in the skin's barrier function, preventing moisture evaporation and protecting against external stimuli and foreign substances. However, when the inside of the skin is dry, this barrier function is impaired, leading to symptoms like roughness, redness, acne, and breakouts.

Furthermore, this inner dryness can lead to disruptions in the skin's turnover cycle. Normally, new cells are generated in the deepest layer of the epidermis, and old keratinocytes are pushed to the surface and shed. This process, known as turnover, renews the skin approximately every 28 days. However, when turnover is disrupted due to dryness or other factors, old keratinocytes accumulate, causing rough skin and acne. Inner dryness is thus closely related to the skin's turnover cycle.

The survey results revealed low awareness of inner care, highlighting the importance of both external and internal care, as inner dryness is a cause of rough skin.

A choice called "Yokukinin" to regulate "inner dryness" from within.

'Yokukinin,' a crude drug derived from the peeled seeds of the Job's tears plant, provides nutrients to the skin, promotes water metabolism, and has pus-discharging and anti-inflammatory effects. It promotes skin turnover, regulates disordered keratinocyte metabolism, and supports the skin's barrier function by suppressing moisture evaporation, thereby contributing to the improvement of skin troubles.

Shin Yokukinin Tablet Kracie

"Shin Yokukinin Tablet Kracie," which contains yokukinin extract, is approved for its efficacy and effects on skin troubles and is effective against viral "warts." Warts occur when skin metabolism is stagnant, turnover is impaired, and old keratinocytes remain on the skin surface. Yokukinin improves warts and rough skin from within by normalizing turnover.
