A Woodworking Experience Workshop Led by Craftsmen, Continuing for Nearly 30 Years in Fujimino City
This event began about 30 years ago with a single remark from a client of Kondo Construction Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Fujimino City, Saitama Prefecture; President: Yoshiyuki Usami, hereinafter referred to as "Kondo Construction"): "Can we make something with the leftover materials from construction?" Kondo Construction then decided to hold an event for adults.
Graduates of Kondo Construction's carpentry skills training facility, "Technical Center," provided support, helping participants create challenging furniture (projects) such as tables and benches. This event, where clients could build their own furniture for home use, was well-received and attracted many participants.
Subsequently, as requests to "let our children participate" grew from participants, and with the arrival of the year 2000, the event shifted its focus from adults to children, and from building individual items to "building projects together as a family," relaunching as the current "Summer Parent-Child Woodworking Workshop."
The event also carries the sentiment of wanting "children to experience traditional Japanese crafts and the joy of making things" and hoping that "even one more young person will aspire to become a carpenter after participating in this event."
Since then, except for periods when it could not be held due to the pandemic, the event has been held successfully, reaching its 23rd iteration this year. It has become a major summer event for elementary school students in Fujimino City.
Currently, the event is organized by "Monozukuri Club," a group established for community contribution with the support of the Fujimino City Board of Education and the cooperation of craftsmen involved in Kondo Construction's projects. It is offered as an opportunity for "hands-on making experiences" that cannot be replicated in daily school life.

- To foster parent-child communication through creating projects together. - To allow participants to feel the joy and pleasure of making things. - To serve as an experiential learning opportunity.
[About the Projects]
The lumber used in this event is the same type of scrap wood used in the construction of Kondo Construction's wooden houses. As the target audience ranges from 1st to 6th graders, participants can choose from four types of projects with varying difficulty levels to create.
(※Scrap wood refers to lumber remaining after large pieces are cut from a log; it is lumber that is not included in finishing materials such as structural or decorative elements, and generally refers to relatively small boards or small squared timbers.)

Treasure Box (Difficulty: ★★) Mini Desk (Difficulty: ★★★)
Towards Sustainable Town Development Through Regional Three-Party Collaboration
With the support of the Fujimino City Board of Education, Kondo Construction's carpenters and local craftsmen from "Monozukuri Club" will provide the craftsmanship they have carefully cultivated over many years to deliver "authentic craftsmanship" to the region's children, an experience they cannot get at school.
By uniting businesses, government, and community organizations, we aim to foster deeper community bonds through making things and to build a sustainable town where children can grow up safely.

"Summer Parent-Child Woodworking Workshop" x SDGs Project
As part of this year's "Parent-Child Woodworking Workshop," we are providing a learning opportunity to funnily convey the charm and potential of wood to the next generation of children. Through the time that Monozukuri Club delivers to the community, it is one of the SDGs projects that aims to foster awareness of "education" and "environment" and to build a sustainable future.
Strengthening Regional Connections
This event, targeting parents and children in the Fujimino City area, is organized by the local craftsmen's group "Monozukuri Club" with the support of the Fujimino City Board of Education. By operating the event in collaboration with the community in this way, we aim to further strengthen regional ties and enhance local residents' pride in their hometown.
Passing on High-Quality Education to the Next Generation
Through woodworking experiences with active carpenters, we provide children with opportunities to foster the joy of making things, creativity, and concentration. Practical learning that cannot be obtained at home or school leads to a rich educational experience.
Revitalizing the Construction Industry
By promoting the appeal of the carpentry profession through the training of young carpenters and the activities of the Technical Center, we contribute to the revitalization of the entire construction industry and the securing of future workers.
