Sagami Women's University (Location: Sagamihara City, Kanagawa Prefecture, President: Masahide Tabata) held a practical marketing class in the Department of International Communication on Saturday, June 21, 2026, as part of an industry-academia collaboration with Korea Ginseng Corp.
On the day, in addition to a special lecture on the Korean cosmetics market and brand strategy, students themselves conducted Korean cosmetics sampling activities at the open campus venue. Through collaboration with the company, this provided an opportunity to deepen their understanding of marketing and intercultural communication, as well as to cultivate practical skills required in society.
Practical Marketing Class through Industry-Academia Collaboration with Korea Ginseng Corp.
In recent years, Korean cosmetics have gained strong support, particularly among young people in Japan, and information dissemination and brand strategies utilizing social media are attracting attention.
The class featured Mr. Lee Gyu-min, brand manager of Korea Ginseng Corp.'s rom&nd brand, as the lecturer. Under the theme of "The Appeal of Korean Cosmetics and Their Distribution in the Japanese Market," students learned about the characteristics of the Korean cosmetics market, brand strategies, and examples of deployment in the Japanese market.
Students analyzed not only the appeal of the products but also from a marketing perspective of "to whom, and what value is delivered," deepening their understanding of communication with consumers in the global market.
Putting Learning into Practice at the Open Campus
Following the lecture, Korean cosmetics "rom&nd" sampling activities were conducted at the open campus venue.
Students introduced the features and appeal of the products to high school students and their parents visiting the campus while distributing samples. They experienced the difficulty and enjoyment of conveying product value by applying the knowledge learned in class to actual communication situations.
For the high school students, it was also an opportunity to learn about the characteristics of studies in the Department of International Communication and the practical education provided in collaboration with companies.
Learning That Connects Students to Society
Many high school students and their parents visited the open campus on the day and experienced product introductions and communication activities by students from the Department of International Communication.
By learning directly from company representatives and having actual contact with consumers, students gained valuable experience connecting classroom learning to the real world of society.
Comments from Instructing Faculty
Sagami Women's University, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Department of International Communication
Professor Yukinori Watanabe, Head of Department
"In this industry-academia collaboration with Korea Ginseng Corp., students were able to learn about marketing and intercultural communication as 'living教材' (living teaching materials) through the familiar theme of Korean cosmetics. The experience of thinking about 'to whom and how to convey' brand value and actually interacting with visitors is precisely the communication skills required in a global society that our department aims to foster, based on language proficiency and intercultural understanding. We will continue to nurture such opportunities, where students learn alongside companies and grow while connecting with society, and strive to develop human resources who can succeed in the international community."
Comments from Participating Students
"By hearing directly from company representatives, I was able to deepen my understanding of the current state of the Korean cosmetics industry and marketing strategies."
"By actually introducing products at the open campus, I realized the importance of communication that resonates with the other person."
Future Outlook
The Department of International Communication, Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Sagami Women's University emphasizes practical learning through collaboration with companies and local communities, in addition to language proficiency and intercultural understanding.
We will continue to actively develop industry-academia collaboration projects and create opportunities for students to learn while connecting with society, thereby fostering human resources who can succeed in the international community.
