Yu Nagira's novel "You Shine in the Night," which won the Honya Taisho Award in 2023 and has sold over 1 million copies in the series, has been decided to be performed as a stage reading from Thursday, May 21 to Sunday, May 31, 2026, at Kokumin Kyosai Coop Hall / Space Zero.
Akimi Inoue and Kai Aono, high school students who meet on an island in the Seto Inland Sea.
Bearing loneliness and a sense of loss, the two find salvation in each other's existence.
Amidst the constraints of Tokyo and the island, dreams and reality, and family ties, their lives unfold, yet their presence in each other's hearts never fades.
The 15-year trajectory of their love will be depicted with the delicate expressions unique to a stage reading.
Momo Asakura, Miku Ito, Karin Isobe, Sumire Uesaka, Moeka Koizumi, Yuria Sato, Riko Tanaka, Yumiri Hanamori, Misato Fukuen, and Hina Yomiya (in alphabetical order) have been cast as Akimi Inoue, the protagonist. Motohiro Ota, Nobuhiko Okamoto, Ryohei Kimura, Takuya Sato, Toshiyuki Toyonaga, Kotaro Nishiyama, and Keigo Hagiya (in alphabetical order) have been cast as Kai Aono, the other protagonist. A star-studded cast of popular and talented actors will appear on alternating dates.
Furthermore, Takuya Uehara, Natsuki Osaki, Ema Tenka, and Mio Kakushima will appear in all performances, adding color to the production.
The script and direction are by Daisuke Nishida, who also presides over DisGOONie and has worked on numerous stage productions.
