Starting March 30, 2026 (Monday), Kodansha will roll out the 4th installment of 'MANGA MANNERS' — a manner-awareness advertising campaign featuring world-famous manga characters — at stations and inside trains on the Tokyo Metro and Tobu Railway lines. This edition welcomes three new series: 'Witch Hat Atelier,' 'Darwin's Incident,' and 'Space Brothers,' and introduces additional etiquette guidelines aimed at helping international visitors enjoy Japan's railways comfortably.
'MANGA MANNERS' debuted in October 2024 as a large welcome wall at Narita Airport Terminal 2's immigration area. Following its positive reception, the 2nd installment launched in April 2025 at Tokaido Shinkansen stations in anticipation of heavy traffic during the Osaka-Kansai Expo. The 3rd installment followed in November 2025 in Kyoto, one of Japan's most iconic tourist destinations. Now, the 4th installment has been confirmed for Tokyo Metro and Tobu Railway.
As with previous editions, Kodansha conducted interviews with Tokyo Metro and Tobu Railway to address key railway etiquette challenges, including new messages such as: 'Please refrain from taking photos that may inconvenience other passengers in stations and on trains,' 'Please set your phone to silent mode and avoid making calls on trains,' and 'Please keep the area around the doors clear when boarding and alighting.' Combined with manners carried over from previous campaigns, this installment features a total of 12 manga series promoting 12 different manners. We hope that not only international visitors but also regular commuters will enjoy learning — or rediscovering — Japanese railway etiquette through this campaign.
