KDDI announced that on April 18, 2026, it will collaborate with East Japan Railway Company (JR East), Odakyu Electric Railway Co., Ltd. (Odakyu Electric Railway), and the Takanawa Police Station of the Metropolitan Police Department (Takanawa Police Station) to hold an awareness event at the Takanawa Gateway Station facility 'Gateway Studio'. The event aims to prevent accidents caused by 'smartphone while walking' and 'smartphone while cycling'. This event is open to everyone without prior reservation and allows free participation on the day. The event is scheduled from 11:00 to 15:00 on April 18, 2026 (Saturday), at Gateway Studio, located at 2-21-1 Takanawa, Minato-ku, Tokyo. Experiential content includes explanations of risks associated with smartphone use while walking by police officers from Takanawa Police Station and train drivers from JR East and Odakyu Electric Railway. Participants can also experience a smartphone risk simulator for walking and cycling using their own smartphones and a venue screen. Additionally, mini-games for children, such as ring toss, will be held, offering original goods from JR East and Odakyu Electric Railway. KDDI has continuously promoted 'smartphone while walking' prevention through experiential content utilizing VR and simulators, and awareness activities in cooperation with educational institutions and local communities. Through this event, KDDI aims to provide an opportunity for each visitor to reconsider their daily smartphone use and become aware of safe behaviors, such as 'stopping to operate' and 'checking surroundings', by 'learning through experience' the dangers of 'smartphone while walking'. KDDI will continue to promote awareness activities and practical initiatives to realize a society where everyone can use smartphones safely and securely.
