Can't Compete with English Alone: What is the Essence of Next-Generation Global Education? Announcement of Opening Seminar for Dalton X Academy High School (Opening April 2027) (June 20)

Kawaijuku Gakuen, a school corporation within the Kawaijuku Group (Nagoya, Aichi; President: Hideki Kawai), will open Dalton X Academy High School in Ichinoseki City, Iwate Prefecture, in April 2027*. This will be the first high school in Japan to implement a combination of correspondence education, full boarding, and inquiry-based learning both domestically and internationally.
To commemorate the school's opening, an online seminar titled "Mirai wo Kaeru X Seminar" (Changing the Future X Seminar) will be held on Saturday, June 20th. This third session will focus on "The Skills Required in the Coming Global Society," with international education critic Manabu Murata discussing the future of global education.

*Application for establishment is planned to be filed in Iwate Prefecture.

This seminar will feature Manabu Murata, an international education critic and editor-in-chief of International School Times, as our guest. As globalization accelerates, the skills children need to thrive in the future are not limited to English proficiency. What is required in a global society is not merely linguistic ability, but the capacity to discover issues independently and act within diverse values.

In this seminar, Mr. Murata, who has extensively covered domestic and international international schools and has experience managing an international school himself, will speak about the future direction of global education. Joining him will be Mr. Chotoshu Agui, Principal of Dalton Tokyo Gakuen, which practices education that "fosters active inquiry and a global perspective," and Mr. Teruchika Furuya, who has experience working for global companies like Amazon and serves as the head of the Dalton X Academy Preparatory Office. Together, they will discuss the essence of next-generation global education.

Japan's First! Dalton X Academy Practicing Correspondence, Full Boarding, and Domestic/International Inquiry-Based Learning

Dalton X Academy High School aims to realize its vision of students who "explore with their own feet, encounter the extraordinary, and co-create the frontier," featuring a learning style inspired by the educational model of Minerva University in the United States.

The school's most distinctive feature is its inquiry-based learning that involves immersing students in local communities. In their second year of high school, students will stay in several regional bases for three months at a time. While engaging in academic learning online, they will conduct fieldwork in the local areas. In their first and third years, students will deepen their learning by staying for one semester each at the main campus in Ichinoseki City, Iwate Prefecture, and at the NTT Central Training Center in Chofu City, operated by NTT East Corporation in partnership with the Kawaijuku Group.

Since 2012, he has been the Editor-in-Chief of "International School Times," a specialized media outlet for international and preschools. In addition to covering domestic and international school and education markets, he is currently active in supporting the expansion of overseas international schools into Japan, assisting private schools in establishing international courses, and providing consulting services for school management and educational businesses. He also serves as the Director of the International Education Think Tank "International Education Lab (IEL)," where he researches and disseminates new educational models and regional collaborations centered on international education.

Born in Shiga Prefecture. After working for a girls' high school in Shiga Prefecture for 20 years, he resigned in 1982 and established a community FM radio station at the age of 42. He returned to the education field in 2006, serving as Principal of Shiga Gakuen Junior High and High School, Principal of Okinawa Amicus International Elementary and Junior High School, and Head of Amicus International Gakuen. In 2019, he became a Counselor (Assistant Vice Principal) at Dalton Tokyo Gakuen Junior & Senior High School. In 2020, he became Vice Principal of Dalton Tokyo Gakuen Junior & Senior High School, and has held his current position since July 2022.

Head of the Preparatory Office for Dalton X Academy High School, scheduled to open in April 2027, and an Executive Officer of KJ Holdings, part of the Kawaijuku Group. After working for global companies such as Amazon Japan and X (formerly Twitter), he transitioned to the Kawaijuku Group three years ago to fulfill his long-held desire to be involved in education. He is currently leading the establishment of Dalton X Academy High School, aiming for a new era of learning.

Dalton X Academy will hold school information sessions and a Tokyo Campus facility tour.

The Tokyo Campus is located within TOKYO NTT BASE. Students will spend one semester each at the Ichinoseki Campus and the Tokyo Campus during their first and third years of high school. The event will include a school information session followed by a tour of the Tokyo Campus and dormitory facilities.
