Kawade Shobo Shinsha (Shinjuku, Tokyo; President: Yu Onodera) will publish 'Kazushige Abe Memoranda: 1990s-2020s' on March 27, 2026. This volume compiles 157 pieces of criticism and essays written by Kazushige Abe, a leading figure in contemporary Japanese literature, over the 32 years since his debut.

[Comment from book designer Hibiki Tokiwa] 'In 1997, I designed the cover for Kazushige Abe's novel 'Individual Projection.' It was my first-ever book design job, and a memorable project for which I bought my first camera and took my first photographs.

Since then, I have designed several of Mr. Abe's books. Each one was a stimulating experience, balancing the tension of visualizing his literary world with the opportunity to challenge myself with new ideas.

I am thrilled to have designed this massive volume, which covers his essays and criticism from the 1990s to the present. I doubt I will ever design a book of this thickness again, either before or after this. Honestly, I think we've created a really cool book!' - March 2026, Hibiki Tokiwa

[Newly written 'Preface' now available for free on Web Kawade] To commemorate the release of this 724-page, 'super-dreadnought' work in both quality and volume by an author who has consistently stared at the distortions of truth from every angle and sounded the alarm, the 'Preface' written specifically for this book is now available for free on Web Kawade. Please take a look.
