Hotel Indigo Karuizawa Launches CSR Initiative in Collaboration with 'Art Uplier'

Hotel Indigo Karuizawa (Karuizawa, Nagano Prefecture) has launched a new CSR initiative in collaboration with 'Art Uplier,' a design team operated by the Karuizawa Council of Social Welfare, to feature art and craft works by local creators with disabilities within the hotel.

Under our brand concept, 'Neighborhood Story,' we prioritize creating guest experiences that allow visitors to feel the unique culture and human connections of the area. This project was realized through the passion of our 'Neighborhood Hosts' (hotel staff), who wanted to share the sensibilities and creative activities of Karuizawa's local creators with domestic and international guests. By adopting handmade sakiori coasters, mugs, and original stationery from Art Uplier, we deliver an experience where guests can feel the warmth of local craftsmanship from the beginning of their stay to the lingering memories of their journey. Through this initiative, we aim to showcase the activities and charm of local creators to the world, while creating opportunities for sustainable connections and new exchanges with the local community.

Sakiori is a traditional weaving technique that uses strips of cloth as weft yarn. Each piece is handmade by creators attending the 'Karuizawa Town Community Activity Support Center,' making every item unique in color and expression. These items decorate our guests' stay as pieces that convey the warmth and sensitivity of the creators' handiwork.

We are also introducing original envelopes featuring art designs based on original paintings by local creators with disabilities. These designs carry the spirit of the creators' creativity and passion, aiming to let guests feel the atmosphere and scenery of Karuizawa even before they open the envelopes.

'Art Uplier' is a design team managed by the Karuizawa Council of Social Welfare. Entrusted by Karuizawa Town with a project to secure social participation and employment opportunities for people with disabilities, they work alongside the general incorporated association 'konst' to produce art and develop products created by local creators with disabilities.
