Kansai International Airport's Climate Change Adaptation Efforts Win Silver at 'Green Airports Recognition 2026'

Kansai Airports is pleased to announce that its 'Building airport resilience in the face of disruptive climate events' project has won the Silver Award, the third prize, at the 'ACI Green Airports Recognition 2026' hosted by ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East*.

The 'Green Airports Recognition' honors airports in the Asia-Pacific and Middle East regions that have demonstrated outstanding achievements in sustainable projects related to the environmental field. The theme for 2026 was 'Climate Change Adaptation.' Learning from the experience of the extensive damage caused by Typhoon Jebi in 2018, our company has been working on strengthening the airport's resilience to prepare for unforeseen extreme weather and associated disasters, with prevention, disaster mitigation, and early recovery as its pillars. The measures, implemented in cooperation with relevant parties, were recognized for contributing to the construction of a highly reliable transportation infrastructure equipped with a system to maintain airport functions and enable early recovery in the event of a disaster.

The award ceremony was held on Wednesday, May 13, at the 'ACI Asia-Pacific & Middle East Regional Assembly' in Bangkok, Thailand, where Representative Director and CEO Yoshiyuki Yamaya attended and received the award.

Kansai Airports Group will continue to promote efforts to reduce its environmental impact as a whole company, and contribute to the realization of a sustainable society through the operation of the airport, which is a public infrastructure.

One of the organizations of ACI (Airports Council International). It is an international organization headquartered in Hong Kong, representing 134 members that operate more than 600 airports in 44 countries and territories in the Asia-Pacific and Middle East, providing various information on standards and policies for airports.
