Kanda University of International Studies (Chiba City, Mihama Ward / President: Shingo Ashizawa) will co-host, together with Japan Airlines Co., Ltd. (Shinagawa Ward, Tokyo / President: Mitsuko Tottori, hereafter JAL), a special seminar and workshop titled 'Creating Connections and New Forms of Travel' on Wednesday, July 15, 2026. The event will feature Takashi Sekiya from JAL's Relationship Creation Department, a key driver of JAL's ESG strategy, who will deliver a lecture re-examining the value of 'mobility,' followed by a participatory workshop led by students, providing an opportunity to actively reflect on societal connections.

Background of the Initiative

This program was realized through the alignment of Kanda University's emphasis on 'learning connected to real society' and JAL's ESG strategy of 'creating relationships and connections.'

The goal is to enable students studying languages and intercultural understanding to redefine the meaning of 'mobility' and 'travel' in modern society through corporate initiatives, fostering a multifaceted perspective.

Special Seminar: Learning JAL's Initiatives

The special seminar, held during the lunch break, will feature Takashi Sekiya from JAL's 'Relationship Creation Department,' who will introduce the core theme of JAL's ESG strategy: 'creating relationships and connections through mobility.'

JAL established the Relationship Creation Department in 2024 to develop mechanisms for deeper engagement with local communities and to explore new forms of travel. This seminar will examine real-world examples and discuss, together with students, the roles and possibilities of travel.

Practical Workshop Led by Students

In the afternoon workshop, participants will form groups to conceptualize ways to revitalize youth overseas travel. In recent years, youth interest in overseas travel has declined, posing a national challenge. Meanwhile, Kanda University has many students with strong international aspirations. What is needed today to inspire youth to look overseas? Students will develop proposals from their own perspectives and present them in a presentation format, receiving feedback from JAL headquarters staff, creating a practical learning environment.

The aim is not merely to listen passively, but to foster deeper understanding and a sense of connection to society by formulating questions, engaging in dialogue, and collaborating.
