The Tokyo Metropolitan Edo-Tokyo Museum opened in 1993 as a place to look back at the history and culture of Edo and Tokyo and to consider the future of cities and life. After extensive renovation work lasting approximately four years since April 2022, it will reopen on March 31, 2026. This renovation will refresh the museum as a more open institution, with new spatial presentations, improved barrier-free functions, and an expanded library.
For the renovation, JTOWER simultaneously developed the 4G and 5G communication environments for the Tokyo Metropolitan Edo-Tokyo Museum using its indoor infrastructure sharing solution, which consolidates the communication equipment of multiple mobile carriers. By utilizing infrastructure sharing, it is possible to achieve space and power savings, as well as reductions in materials and construction work, leading to more environmentally conscious and efficient network development. Furthermore, the improvement of the communication environment contributes to further enhancement of customer experience value.
JTOWER began its indoor infrastructure sharing solution commercial service in 2014 and has since steadily increased the number of implemented properties in a wide range of facilities, including commercial facilities, office buildings, hospitals, government facilities, logistics facilities, and arenas/exhibition halls. In 2020, the company completed the development of shared equipment compatible with 5G and began full-scale implementation, strengthening its system. With 768 implemented properties (domestic indoor infrastructure sharing implemented properties, including 4G/5G, as of December 2025), JTOWER boasts the leading track record in Japan.
As a pioneer in infrastructure sharing, JTOWER will continue to contribute to the digitalization of society by maximizing the technical expertise and knowledge cultivated in the communication field.
About the Tokyo Metropolitan Edo-Tokyo Museum: https://www.edo-tokyo-museum.or.jp/
What is Infrastructure Sharing? Infrastructure sharing allows for the sharing of network equipment that has traditionally been developed independently by each mobile carrier. This enables more efficient network development by reducing the costs associated with equipment, operation, and maintenance compared to independent development by mobile carriers. Furthermore, it contributes to reducing environmental impact by reducing power consumption, materials, and the number of construction works.
